The southern parks of Tanzania are less-visited and off the beaten track. Their isolation makes it even more special. Firstly, you will fly into the Selous Game Reserve. As the mighty Rufiji River runs through the park, game viewing activities are focused on the water, with boat safaris, game drives and catch-and-release fishing offered. You will then fly to Ruaha National Park which is a very different landscape – dry, and vast. Here you will stay in luxury accommodation overlooking a baobab forest, enjoying a week on safari. After your southern Tanzania safari, you will fly over to Zanzibar Island to enjoy 4 nights of white-sand beaches and azure waters.

Day by Day Itinerary

DAYS 1-3
Ruaha National Park
You will fly from Dar es Salaam to Ruaha National Park where you will spend the first three nights on safari. This park is unique in many ways and as you fly over the park in a light aircraft plane, you will see the range of landscapes and environments. As you land in the park, you will be met by your safari guide from Kwihala Camp, and begin your safari back to the luxury tented camp. Here you will spend the next three days enjoying morning and afternoon game drives inside Ruaha National Park – with the opportunity to see elephants, buffalo, lion, leopards, and rarer species like African wild dogs and kudu. Kwihala Camp is on an all-inclusive basis so all of your meals, drinks, park fees, and safaris are included.

  Sat in the heart of Ruaha National Park in southern Tanzania is Kwihala Camp. As part of the Asilia portfolio, Kwihala is a camp that really enhances the safari experience. There is nothing quite like the feeling that a tented camp offers. At night, you’ll be able to hear the roar of lions and during the day, you will probably see elephants walking through camp. The camp offers an intimate experience, with only six expedition-style canvassed tents – each with en-suite bathrooms and safari bucket showers. The camp is located close to the Mwagusi River which is fantastic for game viewing, and close to camp, sausage and jackalberry trees provide a beautiful and unique landscape. Days 4 - 6
Selous Game Reserve
You will then fly from Ruaha to the Selous Game Reserve where you will spend the next three nights on safari. This park is focused on the water, as there are plenty of lakes and rivers that run through the reserve. Today you will enjoy a day of safari activities in the Selous Game Reserve. The mighty Rufiji River runs through the Selous, with many lakes and estuaries running parallel. These lakes are where animals congregate, and predators lurk in the thicket nearby, which makes game viewing so exciting. The Selous is a park that offers a variety of game-viewing activities, including game drives, bush walks, catch-and-release fishing, and boat safaris. As the sun sets, enjoy sundowners with your guide and fellow campmates, before a divine dinner under the stars at Roho ya Selous.

  Siwandu Camp Overview
  Located in the Selous Game Reserve in southern Tanzania is the wonderful Siwandu Camp. As part of the Selous Safari Company portfolio (its sister camp being Jongomero in Ruaha), Siwandu offers undisturbed luxury in, arguably, the best wildlife location in all of southern Tanzania. Siwandu is home to 10 spacious tents made of canvas and mosquito netting, offering king-size beds, ensuite bathrooms, private verandas and of course, an abundance of animals that often visit the camp! To get to Siwandu Camp, you will take a light-aircraft plane from Dar es Salaam to Siwandu airstrip in the Selous Game Reserve. This is a 30-minute flight and as you come to land, you will get the opportunity to spot giraffe, buffalo and elephant from above. Once you arrive in camp, all of your meals are included and served in the elevated lounge and dining area. During the midday heat, you can relax in your luxury rooms, take a swim in the pool, or enjoy the wildlife from the shores of Lake Nzerakera.
Days 7 - 10
Zanzibar Island
After your bush breakfast, say goodbye to the friendly staff at Roho ya Selous and transfer to the airstrip by your guide to catch the internal flight to Zanzibar Island. Enjoy a final game drive en route to the airstrip and take the time to say goodbye to your guide who will no doubt become a great friend. As you arrive in Zanzibar, you will be met on arrival and transferred to The Residence. This is a wonderful hotel offering lots of facilities, great food and amenities, and a fantastic beach. You will stay here for 4 nights. You can do as much, or as little as you like on the island. For those interested in watersports, you can enjoy snorkeling, diving, and kite surfing experiences (bookable from the hotel). If you are looking for full-day excursions, you can visit Jozani Forest, spice farms, and Stone Town (the UNESCO world heritage capital).
