Best time to visit Malta

Malta is a year-round destination with a temperate climate that includes hot, sunny summer days, while spring and fall bring pleasant temperatures with fewer crowds and winter is wet and windy. The tourist season runs from May through October, with the crowds the thickest and the weather the hottest in July and August, a great time for beach days that include swimming in the crystal-clear turquoise waters that surround its shores. May through mid-June is the sweet spot for thin crowds and good weather, while locals are more relaxed. Mid-September through early October is also good, with the water still warm for swimming.

What to do in Malta

Malta is a place where you can step back in time, visiting megalithic monuments, Bronze Age tombs, and ancient temples as well as enjoy spectacular beaches with crystal-clar blue waters for swimming, while plenty of mouthwatering cuisine awaits to fuel activities.

    Step back in time

The megalithic temples of Hagar-Qim & Mnajdra reveal the island’s ancient past while boasting a clifftop setting along the sea. Built between 3600 and 3200 BC, they’re older than the Pyramids of Giza and known for their significant solar alignments. Strolling the medieval streets of Mdina and Valletta is also a trip back in time.

  • Mellieħa Bay 402x402

With Malta made up of three islands, visitors can also enjoy the more tranquil Comino Island with its famous Blue Lagoon along with postcard-perfect beaches on Gozo and the main island of Malta itself, with Mellieħa Bay known as one of the best in the Mediterranean, ideal for unwinding among a magnificent setting.

    Discover a new cuisine

Sampling new cuisine is a highlight of traveling. Traditional Maltese food is based on the seasons, with the national dish traditional rabbit stew, or stuffat tal-fenek, slow-cooked in a blend of rich tomato, garlic, and red wine sauce. Kapunata, a Maltese take on ratatouille, and lampuki pie, or fish pie, are popular too.
