Our guide on where to stay in Tanzania
The safari experience in Tanzania is regarded one of the best in all of Africa. The guiding and accommodation across the country also matches that status, with some of the most unique, innovative, and award-winnings safari camps and lodges on offer. Famous architects have designed some of the most astounding hotels in Tanzania, like Jabali Ridge, the Highlands Camp, Grumeti Singita and Ngorongoro Crater Lodge.
Of course these unique accommodation options do come with a high price tag, but they will offer an incredibly memorable experience. That said, there are plenty of options that are much more affordable when it comes to safari accommodation. If this is your first Tanzania safari, the most important question to ask is – safari tented camp, or a lodge?
A luxury tented camp is essentially a canvassed structure, located in the middle of the national park or reserve. Although the ‘walls’ are canvassed, these safari tents can be as luxurious, if not more, than the lodges. They all offer basic amenities like hot running water, flushing toilets and ensuite bathrooms. Some of them are very luxurious, featuring chandeliers, free-standing baths, four-poster beds and even butler service.
The alternative is to stay in a safari lodge or hotel. These are larger, permanent structures which usually offer a wealth of facilities like swimming pools, spas, bars and restaurants. This is a good option for people who are a little nervous to stay in tented camps.
For beach destinations like Zanzibar, Pemba and Mafia, there are a range of accommodation options available. We would recommend certain hotels depending on who you are traveling with – for example there are hotels suited towards families, multi-generational families, honeymooners and solo travelers. Our specialists have stayed in hundreds of lodges and hotels across the country so please do ask them any questions you may have.
