Our guide on where to stay in Botswana

Botswana’s lodge and camps are generally small, intimate properties set in the wilderness. Each suite is free standing and well spaced for privacy. The focus of the camps is to allow guest to immerse themselves in the reserve. The exception to this is the area around Chobe National Park where there are larger, more resort style hotels. In this area we suggest house boats to allow for a more peaceful safari away from the crowds.

Botswana offers a premium safari experience, but it is also expensive, most properties are 4 or 5 star. Anyone who has been to Botswana will tell you that the cost is justified, you get your own piece of untouched African wilderness. There are no tar roads, guests and supplies get to the camps by light aircraft and the lodges are generally staffed from local villages. This pristine safari experience is untouched by the modern world.

There is the option to go mobile tented camping which is much more affordable, and you can read more on this by visiting our Mobile Tented Camping blog.

Botswana has tented camps and more traditional lodges, if you are a little nervous of going on safari a lodge is good choice. If you are looking to get close to nature, a tented camp will allow you to go to sleep with the sounds of the reserve. Tented camps in Botswana are not what many people thing of as traditional camping! There is a huge range from a basic tent with shared bathrooms to large, airy tents built on raised decks with en suite bathrooms and private plunge pools. Some of the most luxurious places in Botswana are tented camps.
