Czechia has a huge range of hisory, culture, and food to enjoy. We’ve put together a few must sees and dos to make your planning easier.

Prague Old Town Clock

Prague Old Town

Prague’s Old Town is the core of its historical center, the oldest and most beautiful district in the city. It started as a marketplace back in the 9th century and provides a treasure trove of spectacular architecture and intriguing history. There is no shortage of captivating sights but the most iconic is arguably the Astronomical Clock, one of Europe’s top tourist attractions. Here for more than 600 years, every hour on the hour crowds gather beneath the Old Town Hall Tower to watch the fascinating mechanical performance with a procession of Apostles and moving statues.

Prague Lesser Town

Prague Castle & Lesser Town

Lesser Town, or Malá Strana, is clustered around the foothills of Prague Castle which dominates the city skyline. The largest castle complex in the world, it was constructed in the 9th century and covers an area of over 753,473 square feet. Still in use by the Czech government today, it includes everything from 10th-century Romanesque buildings to 14th-century Gothic structures. To see it all would take an entire trip, so you’ll probably have to narrow it down to the highlights such as St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, the gorgeous Romanesque facade of St. George’s Basilica, and the beautifully landscaped South Gardens.

Pilsner Urquell Brewery

Pilsner Urquell Brewery

Pilsner Urquell Brewery has been in operation since 1842. Located about an hour’s drive from Prague in Plzeň, it’s easy to reach by train or by car, but if you want to indulge, hire a driver to fully enjoy a guided tour and a glass. There are a variety of options available, with the classic tour the most frequent and the most popular, starting from the visitor center. You’ll discover the production and the state-of-the-art bottling process before moving on to the brewhouses to see how the beer is made, concluding with a glass.

Brno Villa Tugendhat page

Vila Tugendhat

Located in Czechia’s second-largest city of Brno which was a center of modern Bauhaus style architecture in the 1920s, the UNESCO-listed Vila Tugendhat is the finest example of the period, designed by architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. One of the pioneering prototypes of modern architecture in Europe, it’s made of reinforced concrete, known for its revolutionary use of space and industrial building materials. Often referred to as the most beautiful building in the world, was the inspiration for British author Simon Mawer’s bestseller, The Glass Room, a 90-minute tour will introduce you to the entire building and the garden.

Kutná Hora

Sedlec Ossuary - Kutná Hora

Located in the small town of Kutna Hora, a UNESCO-listed city just an hour’s drive from Prague, the Sedlec Ossuary, or the Chapel of Bones, is a rather creepy but fascinating attraction. The Gothic church looks ordinary from the outside, but in the basement are the bones of thousands of humans which were bleached and ornately carved before being used to decorate the space. The massive bone chandelier is the highlight, incorporating every bone in the human body at least once, while candles glow from the white skulls that stare down at visitors.

Historic Center of Telč

Telč is one of the most beautiful small towns in Europe, with its historic center yet another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded in the 14th century, the highlight is the main square, filled with colorful Renaissance and Baroque townhouses that have been compared to the famous painted ladies in San Francisco. Beneath the town square is a maze of tunnels that connect the homes and cellars once used to store beer and other items that are available to explore via a guided tour. For a dazzling view of the city and surrounding area, climb the tower of the 15th-century St. James Cathedral.

Gardens and Castle at Kroměříž

The highlight of the small, picturesque town of Kroměříž is Kroměříž Castle, the principal residence of the bishops and archbishop of Olomouc until World War I. The castle is surrounded by two beautiful gardens, the Flower Garden and the Castle Garden, and both are listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The gardens are considered among the finest examples of landscape art in all of Europe and are a must to explore, but you’ll also want to take the Representative Halls tour to see the castle interiors, including the Throne Hall, grand Assembly Hall, and Tsar’s Room.
