The Newt Overview
The Newt is a boutique hotel that sits on a working estate with lush gardens, including a walled garden with 460 British apple trees in many different varieties that are arranged in a baroque-style labyrinth. There’s a bottling plant and bar, a cider press, a museum focused on gardening history, an ice cream parlor, a treetop walk, swimming ponds, and even a colony of great crested newts that give the hotel its name. Expect stress to melt away at the spa which has a salt steam room, sauna, and a glass-ended indoor pool that leads to an outdoor heated hydrotherapy pool. A glass-walled gym is hidden away in the garden. There are two restaurants, including the Garden Café with its glass walls overlooking the walled garden and the countryside. Rooms are in the stable yard and farmhouse, built in the 17th century and remodeled in Georgian style. All are unique, with many comforts of home.
