The Iceland Adventure

You’ll begin touring right after your arrival into Keflavik International Airport, with your driver/guide welcoming you to Iceland. Travelling around the Reykjanes Peninsula, you’ll be able to admire many geothermal features, including bubbling mud spots and hot springs. You’ll visit Kleifarvatn Lake to learn about its interesting history – there is no visible water coming in or going out as most flows underground. At the Seltun Geothermal Area you notice unique red, yellow and green hues in the soil due to the gases, sulfur water and minerals. Continue to your accommodation along the Golden Circle route where you’ll spend your next four nights.

The Golden Circle is Iceland’s most popular tourist route, with many spectacular attractions to see along the way. You’ll discover many of them, including Thingvellir National Park where you can stand between the North American and Eurasian continents and see the historic Law Rock where for over 850 years laws were discussed. This is also where you’ll find Gullfoss Waterfall, also known as “Golden Falls,” which drops a total of 105 feet over two sections with rainbows often developing in the mist. Nearby is the Geysir Area, with Strokkur its most impressive geyser, shooting 100 feet in the air about every 10 minutes.

Look forward to a thrilling Super Jeep tour of Mt. Kerlingafjoll today, a nearly 5,000-foot-high mountain in the Highlands which can only be accessed with a 4X4. In this stunning, almost alien-like world, there are clouds of steam, endless views of barren landscapes and glacier-topped mountains in the distance that most visitors never see. Nestled within is the Hvervellir Geothermal Area, a wonderland of boiling mud pools, steaming vents and rainbow-hued hot springs. Here you’ll be able to relax in a hot pool tucked between two glaciers which is sure to be one of the highlights of your time in Iceland.

While you’ve seen plenty of striking natural beauty and other-worldly landscapes, today you’ll discover even more while touring Iceland’s South Coast, renowned for its waterfalls, bizarre volcanic formations and black sand beaches. The first stop is Seljalandsfoss, one of the most magnificent waterfalls, and unique in that there is a hidden footpath that will bring you behind the cascades. Just a bit further down the road is Skogafoss, a waterfall that’s been featured in films and on TV. Stroll a stunning black sand beach where you’ll see the “Trolls of Vik,” bizarre basalt sea stacks rising from the North Atlantic.

While today is departure day, there’s more to see. After checking out of your Golden Circle accommodation, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Reykjavik. Check out the many colourful street murals and visit popular landmarks like the House of Parliament building, Harpa Concert Hall with its unique nature-inspired glass architecture, and Hallgrimskirkja Church, which stand out on the skyline soaring 244 feet above the streets. Capture a selfie with the Leif Erickson statue out front and then take the elevator to the top for a breathtaking view of the multi-coloured rooftops in the city, the North Atlantic and surrounding mountains before returning to Keflavik Airport.
