Highlights

The southern parks of Tanzania are less-visited and off the beaten track. Their isolation makes it even more special. Firstly, you will fly into the Selous Game Reserve. As the mighty Rufiji River runs through the park, game viewing activities are focused on the water, with boat safaris, game drives and catch-and-release fishing offered. You will then fly to Ruaha National Park which is a very different landscape – dry, and vast. Here you will stay in luxury accommodation overlooking a baobab forest, enjoying a week on safari. After your southern Tanzania safari, you will fly over to Zanzibar Island to enjoy 5 days of white-sand beaches and azure waters.

Day 1 Dar Es Salaam

Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania

You will fly into Dar Es Salaam which is the capital of Tanzania. After your long flight, this is a great place to rest your head, enjoy a delicious dinner and prepare for your safari the next day!

Day 2 Selous Game Reserve

Roho ya Selous, Asilia2

Early morning, your driver will transfer you to the domestic airport in Dar es Salaam where you will take a light aircraft flight to the Selous Game Reserve. This scenic flight will be approximately 30 minutes and as you come to land on the bush airstrip, you will may spot elephants, giraffe and buffalo. Day 3 Selous Game Reserve

Roho ya selous, Asilia

Today you will enjoy a day of safari activities in the Selous Game Reserve. The mighty Rufiji River runs through the Selous, with many lakes and estuaries running parallel. These lakes are where animals congregate, and predators lurk in the thicket nearby, which makes game viewing so exciting. The Selous is a park that offers a variety of game viewing activities, including game drives, bush walks, catch-and-release fishing, and boat safaris. As the sun sets, enjoy sundowners with your guide and fellow campmates, before a divine dinner under the stars at Roho ya Selous.

Day 4 Selous Game Reserve

Roho ya Selous, Asilia3

Enjoy another full day of game viewing activities in the Selous Game Reserve. A typical day on safari includes an early start – heading out on a game drive around 6am. Although there are no cheetah in the Selous, the park is home to a large number of other predators, so keep an eye out for lion prides and solitary leopards. The Selous is also home to the largest population of wild dog in Africa! If you are lucky enough to see the dogs, watch their behaviour and interaction closely – they are simply phenomenal. Go to sleep at Roho ya Selous to the sound of hippo, hyena and more!

Day 5 Ruaha National Park

Jabali Ridge Room

After a bush breakfast, you will depart with your guide to Siwandu airstrip for a light aircraft flight to Ruaha National Park (the duration is approximately an hour and a half). As you land into Ruaha, you will notice the stark contrast between both parks. The Selous is dense with vegetation, with a large emphasis on the lakes and rivers. In contrast, Ruaha is dry and vast, with rich red soil and expansive baobab forests. You will be transferred to Jabali Ridge – arguably the most luxurious safari property in all of southern Tanzania. The lodge is perched on a rocky outcrop and located in one of the best game-viewing areas in Ruaha.
