Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 Ljubljana: Arrival into Ljubljana, Slovenia

Ljubljana, Slovenia

After touching down at Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport, you’ll be welcomed by your private driver who will bring you to your accommodation, centrally located in the city. Get settled in and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure, relaxing at your hotel or perhaps enjoying a short stroll to Ljubljana Castle where you’ll enjoy a spectacular view of the mountains and the city below. It’s worth timing your visit to take in a sunset from the tower on the castle grounds. Afterwards, find a restaurant within the walls of the castle where you can dine on the delicious local fare for dinner.

Day 2 Ljubljana: Private Walking Tour

    Ljubljana, Slovenia

A private walking tour will reveal the highlights in Ljubljana’s medieval Old Town a charming pedestrian-only zone filled with magnificent baroque architecture and cobbled streets. Follow your expert guide across the picturesque bridges, alongside the river, through the open-air market and into the grand cathedral while you learn all about the city’s origins and the stories behind the landmarks that you’re seeing. Afterwards enjoy time on your own to explore the museums, art galleries, trendy cafes, and bars. We recommend sampling the rolled dumplings known as Štruklji, a signature Slovenian dish dating to the 16th century, often part of the cuisine served in monasteries.

Day 3 Ljubljana: Bled and Vintgar Gorge Day Trip

      Lake Bled, Slovenia

Enjoy a day trip to Bled, a fairytale-like destination that’s one of the most popular in all of Slovenia, set around the sapphire waters of Lake Bled with a tiny island in the middle and a dramatic mountain backdrop. The first stop is Bled Castle where you’ll be able to enjoy a Slovenian wine tasting in the wine cellar before visiting the lake’s island and church via a traditional boat. Afterwards, explore the charming center of town and sample some of its famous cream cake. On the return to Ljubljana, enjoy the spectacular alpine beauty of Vintgar Gorge, carved by the Radovna River.

Day 4 Salzburg: Marble Hall Music Performance

        Mirabell Palace, Salzbourg, Austria

Heading to Austria today, your private driver will pick you up from your Ljubljana accommodation to bring you to your hotel in Salzburg. Along the way, you’ll stop at one of the most beautiful towns in all of Europe, Hallstatt. Nestled between a pristine lake and lush mountains, it looks as if it came straight from the pages of a storybook. Originally founded in 5000 BC, early settlers hoped to exploit the mountains’ vast salt reserves. After getting settled into your Salzburg hotel, get ready to enjoy a musical performance showcasing talented ensembles and soloists at the magnificent Baroque-style Marble Hall in Mirabell Palace.

Day 5 Salzburg: Group Walking Tour

          Salzbourg, Austria

You’ll explore the top sights of Salzburg on a group walking tour while getting insider tips from your local guide for the perfect orientation to the city. A 90-minute tou, you’ll visit Mirabell Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in the early 17th-century, passing the Mozarteum and Mozart’s Residence before crossing the Staatsbrücke to wander through the Old Town, a unique ensemble of medieval and baroque buildings. You’ll explore sights like the 17th-century baroque Salzburg Cathedral, the Houses of Festival and St. Peter’s, a Benedictine monastery and former cathedral, with a continuous history since its founding in 696 AD.

Day 6 Salzburg: Hallstatt Day Trip

            Hallstatt, Austria

Return to Hallstatt on a day trip today for a more in-depth look at one of the world’s most enchanting lakeside villages. Your expert tour guide will reveal its history while you enjoy the scenic drive through the beautiful Salzkammergut Lake District. Once there, explore it on your own, using the knowledge provided by your insider guide. We recommend riding the funicular for the breathtaking “World Heritage View” that includes the sparkling lakes and mountains. You’ll see Mühlbach Waterfall while strolling the town’s main drag, and at the Hallstatt Museum, check out the unrivalled collection of discoveries from local salt mines and cemeteries.

Day 7 Vienna: Transfer from Salzburg

              Vienna, Austria

It’s time to say goodbye to Salzburg, riding the train to Vienna, about a three-hour journey. As Viennese wine taverns, officially known as heurigens (the plural form of heuriger), are at the heart of the region’s celebrations, after your arrival, enjoy leisure time to explore them. Similar to a Munich beer hall, heurigens serve only Viennese wines, often from an attached or nearby vineyard. You can be sure the wine is not only local by incredibly fresh as by law only wines from the current vintage can be offered. Classic Austrian fare can be enjoyed alongside it, and live music may be hosted too.

Day 8 Vienna: Group Walking Tour

                Vienna, Austria

A group walking tour through vibrant Vienna will allow you to explore this cultural melting pot that’s made up of many who appreciate art, design, history and culture. You’ll be able to mingle with like-minded travellers while exploring popular historic sites like the Jewish Quarter, the Hofburg, former Imperial Palace and Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) the historical symbol of the Austrian capital. This iconic structure has witnessed many significant events over the past 700 years and today offers an idyllic venue for enjoying classic music concerts and spectacular city views. Along the way, learn important facts about the 600-year-long Habsburg era too.

Day 9 Vienna: Wachau Valley Group Tour

                  Wachau Valley, Austria

Enjoy a full-day small group tour to explore outside of the city in the picturesque Wachau Valley. You’ll be able to visit charming small towns like Krems or Dürnstein and enjoy a wine tasting with local snacks. Sip delicious vino while learning about the valley’s winemakers and then, during the warmer months of the year, from April through October, take a cruise along the Danube River to marvel at magnificent castles, precipitous vineyards and historic villages from the perspective of the water. Between November and March, you can visit Melk Abbey, a Benedictine abbey that lies above the town of Melk providing fantastic views.

                    Day 10 Departure

                    Austria, Vienna

After nine nights through the “Charms of the Alpine Edge,” your journey comes to an end.
