Tucked away amongst the mountains of the southeastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula,  Oman could be considered one of the Middle  East’s best-kept secrets. The capital city of Muscat is a delight for travelers, lined with white sand beaches along the Gulf of Oman, while atmospheric Nizwa retains an antique mystique, acting as a  gateway to the ancient towns of Bahla and  Jabreen, as well as a good base for explorative mountain trips venturing deep into the Akhdar mountain.

Elsewhere the Wahiba Sands form the sandy heart of eastern Oman, with towering dunes,  some as high as 300 feet, reaching towards the  Arabian Sea, and relieving travelers of any illusions that the dessert is without wildlife, as here you’ll find mongoose, gazelles, and myriad migrant bird populations.
