Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 Embarkation in Naples
Welcome to Italy. Upon your arrival, you’ll be met by our driver for private transfer to Harmony G with embarkation is at 3 p.m. If you’re here early you might want to explore Naples with its centuries of architecture and important works of art, including the Duomo di San Gennaro with its gorgeous frescoes. After boarding the ship, settle into your cabin and enjoy a welcome drink along with introductions to the captain, crew, and your fellow passengers. The ship will set sail for Capri, overnighting at sea.
Day 2 Capri
We’ll anchor at Capri to enjoy its many Mediterranean charms as a favorite resort destination since Roman times. Join an optional half-day excursion for an in-depth look that begins by taking the iconic funicular from the marina to the village of Capri. Follow your guide on foot to the Gardens of Augustus with its awe-inspiring views of rock formations that rise out of the turquoise sea. Visit the buzzing centre of Capri, Piazzetta, a hub of local life where you’ll have free time to explore before returning to the ship. Enjoy the rest of the day unwinding onboard, spending the night at sea.
- Optional Excursion Tour of Capri
Day 3 Amalfi
Waking up on the Amalfi Coast, you’ll be in awe of the dramatic cliffs topped with magnificent villas. An optional half-day excursion to Positano by mini-coach, provides a look at one of Italy’s prettiest towns. This nearly vertical hamlet is stunningly colorful while clinging to the steep slopes overlooking the azure sea. Once an eclectic fishing village, writer John Steinbeck’s love for it led to it becoming a popular retreat among wealthy Europeans. Take time to browse the boutiques known for their cotton clothing before returning to the ship. After dark, we’ll cruise by Stromboli to witness the active volcano’s bubbling lava.
- Optional Excursion Tour of Positano
Day 4 Lipari
This morning we’ll dock at the Aeolian’s largest island, Lipari, a place famous for its striking natural scenery, with a volcanic setting Homer referred to as a “wall of bronze.” Today’s optional tour will take you on a half-day exploration by coach to admire the panoramic vistas at Quattrocchi, followed by the church and spectacular views of Salina Island at Quattropani. Afterward, continue to a castle constructed on the site of an ancient necropolis with a cathedral and museum displaying fascinating artifacts from prehistoric, ancient Greek and Roman times. You’ll have leisure time to enjoy the village on your own before reboarding the ship.
- Optional Excursion Tour of Lipari
Day 5 Taormina
After breakfast, sail to the hilltop town of Taormina and the seaside village of Giardini Naxos. This area has a long history, settled before the Greeks founded Naxos in the 8th-century BC. Today it’s popular for enjoying beautiful beaches and the sea. An optional tour showcases Taormina’s charms, including the remarkable Greek theatre, late 14th-century Palazzo Corvaja, and narrow alleyways that bring glimpses of Giardini Naxos and Mount Etna. A walk along the pedestrian street, Corso Umberto, reveals the many high-end boutiques that have given Taormina the nickname, “Sicilian Saint Tropez.” Back onboard, we’ll sail toward Catania as you enjoy the breathtaking views.
- Optional Excursion Tour of Taormina
Day 6 Catania
Once in Catania, embark on a full-day excursion to the active volcano, with spectacular views as your private coach winds up the slopes of the mountain. Once at the highest point accessible by vehicle, a short walk reveals the two craters formed during the 1892 eruption and a 360-degree view of the Gulf of Catania. Enjoy lunch at a local eatery with a view of the lava stream before returning to Catania for a guided walk of the city center and landmarks like Piazza del Duomo and Fontana dell Elefante. Enjoy time on your own to explore before returning to the ship, overnighting at sea.
- Optional Excursions Tours of Mount Etna & Catania
Day 7 Syracuse
After breakfast, a half-day tour can bring you to some of the top sights in Syracuse, starting at Neapolis Archaeological Park, an open-air museum with impressive Sicilian ruins just a short drive away. Marvel at highlights like the Greek theatre, one of the most well-preserved from antiquity, and Orecchio di Dionisio (Ear of Dionysus), a limestone cave with nearly perfect acoustics. Afterward you’ll drive to the island of Ortygia which boasts of the earliest constructions in the city, including a baroque-style cathedral built on the remains of the Temple of Athena. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.
- Optional Excursion Tour of Syracuse
Day 8 Licata & Agrigento
Wake up in the port of Licata, enjoying breakfast before an optional full-day Agrigento tour. You’ll visit the Valley of the Temples of its exceptional collection of ancient Greek monuments that are tucked among almond and olive trees. Follow a local guide from here to the 5th-century BC Temple of Zeus, which commemorates the victory of the Agrigentines over the Carthaginians. Other highlights include the tomb of Theron and temples dedicated to Juno, Hercules, and twin brothers Pollux and Castor. Take time to explore on your own before returning to the ship. We’ll depart to Malta this afternoon, cruising along the mainland.
- Optional Excursion Agrigento
Day 9 Disembark in Valletta
After a night at sea, we’ll arrive at Valletta in the morning. As disembarkation will be at 9 a.m., you’ll want to get your bags packed and ready for a private transfer to the airport for your return trip home or further travels. Breakfast will be served on the ship first; a good time to say your farewells to the crew and new friends made.
