Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 Moscow: Arrive into Moscow, Russia

Moscow, Russia

Upon your arrival to Moscow, you’ll be welcomed by your private driver for transfer to your hotel in the Russian capital. The largest city in the Russian Federal, it’s busy and a bit chaotic but also stunning and incredibly interesting. Check into your accommodation and then enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure. You might want to get a preview and capture a few photos by taking a stroll to view the magnificent, varied architectural styles. The GUM shopping mall facing Red Square is probably unlike any you’ve ever visited, ideal for experiencing daily life in the city and picking up souvenirs.

Day 2 Moscow: Private Guided City Highlights Tour

Join your private guide for a full day tour of Moscow’s highlights. You’ll take in many iconic sights, including Red Square and the colourful St. Basil’s Cathedral, the imposing Kremlin, historic Bolshoi Theater, the Lenin Mausoleum and the State Historical Museum. Check out the former KGB building, the place where the infamous Soviet enforcement agency once operated, and in the Armory Chamber at the Kremlin you’ll get a glimpse of the incredible wealth Russian royals from the past once enjoyed. Marvel at artistic silver and gold wares, royal carriages, ceremonial tsar vestments, coronation dresses, Russian Orthodox Church clergy garments and much more.

Day 3 Cruise: Set Sail on the MS Volga Dream

Today you’ll embark on the cruise portion of your journey, starting with a private port transfer from your hotel. Hop aboard the opulent MS Volga Dream and get ready to set sail along the nearly 2,200-mile-long Volga River between Moscow and St. Petersburg. It’s a trip through Russia’s rich, captivating history, meandering through the stories of Ivan the Terrible and the historic “Greats,” Peter and Catherine. It kicks off in style with a Captain’s Welcome Reception and dinner. Not only will you enjoy a delicious meal, but it’s the perfect opportunity to meet and get to know your fellow cruise passengers.

Day 4 Cruise: Ancient Uglich & Choir Music

Uglich, Russia

Enjoy the postcard-perfect views while cruising through the scenic forested countryside as you make your way to Uglich. This ancient trading town is a key point of interest on the country’s famous Golden Ring. After docking, you’ll be able to visit the remarkable Church of St. Dmitri-on-the-Blood, constructed on the very site where Ivan The Terrible’s son Dmitri was murdered in the late 16th century. Afterwards you’ll head to St. John’s Church to enjoy a magical choral music concert. Back onboard, a special documentary film will be presented for your viewing pleasure: “Construction of the Moscow Canal.”

Day 5 Cruise: Yaroslavl, a Costumed Tea Ceremony & a Russian Cooking Class

Yaroslavl, Russia

Your cruise continues to one of central Russia’s oldest cities, Yaroslavl. It dates back more than a thousand years to 1010 and was the first port along the Volga. Visiting the Spassky Monastery, you’ll see the Transfiguration of the Savior before viewing the incredible collection of mosaics at the Church of Elijah the Prophet. Your time here concludes at the governor’s house with a costumed reception. Boarding the “Dream” once again, you’ll enjoy lunch on board. Later today, a costumed Russian tea ceremony and Russian cooking class is on the agenda, one of the many memorable highlights of your excursion.

Day 6 St. Cruise: Guided Tour of Goritsy

Cyril-Belozersky Monastery, Kirillov, Russia

Sailing across the former fishing grounds of the tsars, White Lake, also known as Lake Beloye, you’ll dock near the tiny village of Goritsy after lunch. Join your guide for a group tour of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery, once Northern Russia’s large monastery and its most powerful fortress. Founded in 1397, it’s also one of the oldest monasteries in all of Europe. You’ll get to marvel at some spectacular frescoes created by one of the country’s most high acclaimed icon artists before hopping back on board. A Russian dinner with a quintessential vodka tasting will be part of your evening activities.

Day 7 Cruise: Ancient Wooden Homes and Windmills in Kizhi

Your next destination brings some particularly alluring scenery. Be sure to get your camera ready as the Kareliya region spans all the way from the Arctic Circle to St. Petersburg and includes vast forested wilderness areas with sparkling lakes and rivers, including Lake Onega, home to nearly 1,370 islands and fed by 58 rivers. You’ll stop to see the pretty collection of ancient wooden homes and windmills in Kizhi aswell as its famous 1714 Transfiguration Church, built without any nails. A piano concert that includes pieces by Rakhmaninov and Tchaikovsky will be hosted on the ship this evening.

Day 8 Cruise: Svirstroy Traditions

Kurpovo village, Russia

An exciting authentic experience will be enjoyed today as you’ll be invited into a local’s home in Svirstroy on the river’s left bank. Friendly villagers will welcome you in with tasty local pies called pirozhkie and jam. They’ll passionately regale you with stories about the lifestyles of residents here as well as Russian traditions and the attractions in the village as they proudly show you their homes and garden kitchens. Enjoy tea before boarding a coach to tour a town nearby, visiting a local primary school and viewing a World War II monument. This evening, indulge in a BBQ feast on the open deck.

Day 9 St. Petersburg: Private Half-Day Highlights Tour

St. Petersburg, Russia

Your cruise comes to an end today, but before disembarking in St. Petersburg you’ll enjoy a complimentary cocktail while reminiscing about the trip with your fellow passengers. Your private driver will meet you at the port for transfer to your accommodation in the city. After settling in, meet your private driver/guide for a half-day tour of the city’s highlights. See the incredible Winter Palace complex that houses the famous Hermitage Museum with its collection of over 600,000 works, neoclassical St. Isaac’s Cathedral, the world’s fourth largest, where you can climb 250 steps to the dome’s colonnade for a 360-degree view of magnificent St. Petersburg.

Day 10 St. Petersburg: Full Day Pushkin Tour

St. Petersburg, Russia

This morning your private guide will bring you on a full day tour of Pushkin which lies just south of St. Petersburg, best-known as the home of baroque-style Catherine Palace and its surrounding Catherine Park with gorgeous landscaped gardens. The royal family’s main summer residence, you’ll see some of its remarkable collections, including statues, porcelain, furniture and canvases, as well as personal belongings of Russian emperors and their family members. Step into the Amber Room, one of the most opulent of the staterooms, and learn about the palace’s history from your knowledgeable guide. Before returning to your hotel, you’ll visit the world-famous Peterhof too.

Day 11 Departure

St. Petersburg, Russia

Your memorable cruise and land tour through Russia comes to an end this morning. After checking out of your hotel, you’ll be met by your private driver for transfer to the airport in St. Petersburg to catch your flight home.
