Let Us Plan Your Travel to Mauritius
Mauritius is famous for its white, powdery sand beaches and clear cobalt waters that offer world-class diving and snorkeling, a desert island dream with much of the coastline fringed by coral reef where one can discover a brilliant world of reef fish, rays, and sea turtles.
But it also has a forested, mountainous interior for hiking, beautiful botanical gardens, and fabulous bird watching, along with wildlife like giant tortoise, while dolphins and sperm whales swim offshore. Beyond the usual water sports and mountain treks, visitors can enjoy zip lining, quad biking, horseback riding, scenic nature walks and golfing on top-notch courses.
History and architectural enthusiasts will find remnants from the British colonial era, including grand colonial plantations homes and sacred Hindu temples to explore, like the temple of Maheswarnath, the first and most revered of its kind in Mauritius. The colorful markets are a must visit with everything from the usual fruits and vegetables to spice vendors, artisans selling handicrafts and street-food hawkers. Speaking of food, toss in the mouthwatering food scene with a wide range of flavors to discover thanks to the diverse mix of Mauritians, French, Creole, Indian and Chinese, and world-renowned hospitality, and you’ll understand why Mauritius truly offers something for every traveler.
It’s realy no surprise that writer Mark Twain once remarked, “You gather the idea that Mauritius was made first and then heaven was copied after Mauritius.” And even better? If you’re looking for luxury, here it’s surprisingly affordable.

Things to do in Mauritius
Visit Black River Gorges National Park
The largest and most beautiful national park in Mauritius, Black River Gorges is a wild expanse of dense forest and rolling hills that serves as important habitat for the nation’s most endangered bird species, the pink pigeon, echo parakeet and Mauritius kestrel. It’s also home to more than 300 species of flowering plants, while macaque monkeys, wild boar and deer wander through.
The mountain hamlet of Chamarel offers some outstanding eateries, but it’s world-famous for a bizarre volcanic geological phenomenon that’s resulted in seven colors of earth swirled together, a vast area of sand dunes in shades of red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow. It’s also home to picturesque Chamarel Waterfall, which plunges more over 272 feet, and a tortoise park.
See the Tamarind Falls
A series of seven cascades along the Rivière Tamarin in a magnificent canyon, a visit to Tamarind Falls is one of the top things to do in Mauritius. You’ll hike through the forest to this lush oasis where you can see them up close and then enjoy a cool refreshing dip at the bottom of the series of falls.
Enjoy a Boat Trip to Ile aux Cerfs
There are many smaller islands off Mauritius that can be visited by boat, with one of the most appealing the historic Ile aux Cerfs, or Lighthouse Island. With its stunning scenery and the opportunity to snorkel among abundant marine life along the way, it’s one of the top day trips here. A BBQ lunch with drinks is usually included too.
See the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden
One of the most popular attractions in Mauritius, the national botanical garden was opened nearly 300 years ago as a private garden by the French governor. It’s so large it would take a week to see it all, with over 650 plant species, including the famous Baobab trees, giant water lilies, a huge spice garden, dozens of medicinal plants and more.
