Our Luxury Tours of Vietnam
The possibilities really are endless with Vietnam. There’s a lot of ground to cover and a consistently high level of accommodation and service in even the remotest corners of the country, so whether you’re focusing solely on Vietnam itself, or looking to use it as the centrepiece of a wider Indochina tour, the question isn’t where to go – it’s where to stop!
Choosing what to include in your luxury tour of Vietnam will largely depend on the pace of travel you prefer and how much time you have to do it in. A whistle-stop highlights tour – covering principal destinations Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City – could be completed in a short but sweet 10 days. A more complete tour – with the odd extra day in these destinations and also taking additional time to see more of culturally and scenically rich rural Vietnam – would demand around 14-16 days. Options to combine with neighbouring Cambodia or Laos are endless, are we really wouldn’t encourage trying to do too much – you can always come back again after all! – but a comprehensive Grand Tour of Indochina would be around three weeks.
Our specialists have put together a brief selection of sample tours, picking out the most efficient routes and highlighting some of our favourite hotels and experiences. This is the just the tip of the iceberg: whatever style of traveller you are, however long you’re planning to travel for, and whoever you’re travelling with, we’ll come up with an epic Vietnam tour to suit.

How easily can Vietnam be combined with our countries in Indochina?
The region formerly known as French Indochina encompasses Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. With fluid borders and excellent transport links between the three – plus neighbouring Thailand – combination trips are easy to put together. All three nations claimed independence in the 1950s and each has experienced a unique and uniquely eventful journey into the present day; a trip to the region is an opportunity to experience these captivating destinations side-by-side, where you’ll quickly learn that while the culture and character of each is markedly different, all are equally compelling.
So can I cover all of Indochina in one trip?
Yes…and no. We’re always flexible to our clients’ wishes, and if its your preference to cover 10 locations in 14 days across three different countries then so be it – we’ll make sure this is faultlessly arranged. Where possible though we’ll always recommend travelling slower and taking time to properly get under the skin of a destination, and with so much to see in Indochina this can see guests coming back for two or three further trips before they really feel they’ve ‘seen it all’. Laos is a common culprit for this – a 2-night extension to Luang Prabang on your first trip to the region is usually so enthralling it will inspire a full two-week Laos itinerary a year or two down the line!
Would you recommend travelling to Halong Bay? Has it become too busy?
While Halong Bay is a truly remarkable sight, and with good reason Vietnam’s most famous tourist destination, we can’t lie that over-tourism has begun to take its toll. As always though the 80/20 rules applies: 80% of tourists will cover just 20% of the area. Halong Bay contains some 2,000 islets across a 600sq mi area, so if you opt for an overnight cruise – or better yet a two-night cruise, or even better still a two-night private charter – you’ll quickly outstrip the day-trip and backpacker boats and find yourselves in a far more serene environment. A small number of preferred cruise partners have also recently started operating in neighbouring Lan Ha bay which similarly epic scenery but thus far has not been discovered by the crowds.
How does UTC operate in Vietnam and the wider region?
All of our tours are arranged exclusively for you, and such fully private tour services remain excellent value throughout Southeast Asia. Unless advised otherwise, expect each transfer or sightseeing activity to be in the company of both a private driver and a private English-speaking guide. Generally these two-person teams work out of station offices: a Hanoi-based guide and driver for instance would accompany you throughout Hanoi, Pu Luong, Ninh Binh, and Halong Bay, then drop you at the airport or train station when it’s time to travel further south and pick up the next guide and driver in Hoi An or Ho Chi Minh City.
With driving responsibilities deferred our guides are left free to focus solely on you: managing then itinerary to ensure you maximise your time, and getting to know you well with a view to making small tweaks and enhancements as you move through the day. We’ll also always recommend retaining a decent amount of free, unguided time: part of the joy of somewhere like Hanoi or Hoi An is unstructured pottering, soaking up the atmosphere for yourselves!
