Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 Cape Town Arrival

Waterfront Cape Town

On arrival into Cape Town Airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The Cape Milner Hotel is located in the heart of Cape Town with a backdrop of Table Mountain. The area is full of restaurants and bars and the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to the V&A Waterfront. This afternoon you can relax at the hotel pool or start to explore Cape Town.

Day 2 Private Full Day Cape Peninsula Tour

Penguin Colony

This private peninsular tour is bespoke, we tailor the day to your personal tastes. The below is a suggested itinerary.

We start the day travelling along the coastline past many of Cape Town’s most beautiful villages Camps Bay, Llundudno and Hout Bay as well as the nature reserves that separate them. From Hout Bay we head on to one of the world’s most scenic drives  Chapman’s Peak Drive. This is rated as one of the most beautiful drives in the world! We continue to the end of the peninsula for a visit to the famous Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point. Here we stop at Cape Point to enjoy either a short or a medium distance hike. This is the most South Westerly point in Africa. Next is a visit to the penguin colony at Boulders Beach.  Penguins are only found in the Southern hemisphere. We pass through the oldest town on the peninsula – Simon’s Town and then stop for a relaxed lunch. After lunch we continue back to the hotel.

Day 3 Private Full Day Winelands Tour

Winelands

This private wine tour is bespoke, we tailor the day to your personal wine and food taste. The below is a suggested itinerary.

We explore the history, the wine and the architecture of the region. The region is most famous for its red wine – there is however some great white wine found on the higher slopes of the mountains. Our recommendation for today would be to concentrate on the Stellenbosch wine region and to select two wineries in this region based on your wine tastes. Lunch is usually planned in this region as it is the foodie haven of the country.  Some ideas for after lunch would be: a visit to Paarl or Franschhoek for another wine tasting or a walk through the town of Franschhoek or a walk in an organic garden on the Babylonstoren estate or an artisan bean to bar chocolate tasting! (Lunch is additional cost)

Day 4 Half Day Township Tour

Township Tour

Your half day tour takes place in the expansive townships or informal settlements located in the eastern part of the city known as the Cape Flats. Our expert guides will discuss in detail the challenges confronting the locals concerning healthcare, education, social, political, and economic challenges.

On any given trip, we visit three or four diverse community projects to learn about their work. Projects visited include urban agriculture; animal welfare; youth development through the medium of art, dance, choir singing, classical music, drumming or sport; special needs education; assistance to refugees; the environment; economic empowerment through skills development; arts and crafts; prisoner rehabilitation; care and protection for children, women and the elderly and much more.

Day 5 Rovos Rail

Rovos Train

Today you will be met by your driver who will transfer you to the Rovos Rail Station in Cape Town.

Once you are on board and settled into your suite you can joining your fellow travellers in the lounge car and observation car. The train reaches Worcester in the Hex River Valley before climbing 750m up the face of the escarpment. The train arrives at the first of four tunnels on the pass. Tea is served in the lounge and observation cars. You will disembark at Matjiesfontein for an opportunity to stroll through the historic village. Of special interest is the museum on the platform and a collection of historic cars and railway carriages to the right of the Lord Milner Hotel. Dinner is served in the dining cars and the dress code is formal.

Day 6 Rovos Rail

Pullman Suite Rovos

Today you will travel through the Karoo, a vast semi-desert region that was once an enormous inland sea. Over millions of years, volcanic matter was ground down and deposited as silt upon the seabed to form what geologists call the Karoo system. Lunch is served in the dining cars before you disembark to enjoy a tour of Kimberley’s Diamond Mine Museum and the Big Hole. Capital of the Northern Cape, Kimberley is well known for the discovery of diamonds that led to its establishment in 1871. Day 7 Pretoria

Train Track Karoo

Breakfast is served in the dining cars as you travel northeast through the goldfields of the Witwatersrand. You will enjoy lunch before the train arrives at the Rovos Rail Station, Pretoria. You will be met by your driver and transferred to your hotel for the night in Pretoria.

Day 8 Safari Plains

Safari Plains Room

This morning, after breakfast, you will be met by your driver for the two hour journey to Safari Plains. Safari Plains is set against the backdrop of the magnificent Waterberg Mountains in the Limpopo Province on the Mabula Game Reserve.

All tented suites are perfectly appointed with sunken baths, separate showers and toilets as well as air conditioning.

Day 9 Safari Plains

Cheetah

An early morning safari around sunrise and afternoon safari with sundowners are scheduled every day. See Impala, Zebra, Giraffe, and Ostrich all graze together on the vast open grassland plains; the herd of elephant crashing through thick bush to get to the juiciest leaves and a shy hippo pair hiding everything but their protruding nostrils under the water. During the mid day heat we suggest you relax at the pool or perhaps have a nap so you are ready for your afternoon game drive.

Day 10 Safari Plains

Elephants

Today you may choose to head out on a game walk into the reserve with an experienced guide to see the smaller animals and learn about the vegetation on the reserve. There is also the opportunity to book an optional hot air balloon trip or a horseback safari.
