Our Luxury South African Safaris

South Africa has over 20 National Game Reserves and numerous private game reserves. Each reserve has a slightly different ecosystem and therefore the wildlife varies between reserves. Each park is different and your consultant will be able to guide you to the right one for you.

The most famous is The Kruger Park, the largest and oldest in the country. It covers 20,000km and is run by the South Africa Government, next to the main park is approximately 20 private reserves. The second-largest park is Madikwe Game Reserve, famous for its wild dog sightings and for being malaria-free. Then there are numerous private reserves in the Eastern Cape area of South Africa which are ideal for families or self-drivers. Any of these areas will provide a fantastic first-time safari experience. For couples and honeymooners, the private reserves in the Kruger offer exceptional luxury and the chance for you to reconnect with nature in a peaceful environment.

South Africa is not just a safari destination, Cape Town is regularly voted the most beautiful city in the world and we always recommend guests spend a few days there. The Garden Route has beautiful beaches to relax on and the Winelands are home to award-winning vineyards. The country has a rich culture and history to explore, one of the best ways to understand the country is a walking food tour with an experienced guide. If you are looking for an island experience, South Africa has direct flights to Mauritius and Mozambique for guests seeking the ultimate beach break.

South Africa Safari Q&A

How do I choose the right safari park for me?

This is a very difficult question to answer! South Africa has so many options and it depends on so many factors, including the time of year you visit, what your budget is, what you enjoy and what your wider itinerary is. There are examples on our website to give you some inspiration but please get in touch with us to discuss a personalized itinerary. We know all the lodges and reserves and can help you plan an amazing trip.

What is a typical day on safari like?

Going on safari is very different from other types of trip. Your guide will wake you up early, before sunrise, this is the best time of the day to watch the wildlife before the heat of the day. You will have a cup of coffee or tea and then head out on your morning game drive. You will be out for 3-4 hours before returning for a large breakfast. In the heat of the day, we suggest a siesta or a swim in the pool. You will then go back out into the reserve around 4 pm and stay out until the sunsets.

How long should I go on safari for?

The answer to this is subjective but, as a guideline, I would recommend a safari between 3-6 nights is a sufficient amount of time. I would always recommend a minimum of 3 nights on safari in one lodge or camp. This gives you enough time to experience fantastic wildlife sightings, but also get to know the staff, managers and your safari guide who will ultimately become a friend.

How much is a safari in South Africa?

You can spend as much as you want in South Africa! There is no shortage of choice, with lodges in every price bracket. Safari lodges start from £200 per person. For people on a budget, you can do a great self-drive trip, staying in guesthouses with a few nights at the end in a mid rage safari lodge for £1000 per person. You can then go to other extreme and stay in a luxury five-star game lodge in the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve for £8000 per person.
