Our Luxury Tours of Bali & Indonesia

How do you envisage your tour of Bali? The island can be tackled in many different ways: an extended luxury beach stay on the south coast; the perfect two-centre family holiday or honeymoon combining the beach with spiritual and scenic Ubud; or multi-stop itineraries of up to 2 or 3 weeks travelling around the island, taking in volcanoes, national parks, coral reefs, mountain-top temples, cascading waterfalls, and idyllic rural villages.

The ‘Island of the Gods’ sits in the middle of the Indonesian archipelago, but is distinctly different from the rest of the country. As the only Hindu majority island in Indonesia, and with its own language, cuisine, and entirely unique culture, Bali stands apart and as is typically seen as a complete destination in itself. Whatever trip you plan, we guarantee that you’ll be amazed by the magical ‘Island of Gods’ and delighted by the warmth and humour of the Balinese people.

However, with Bali’s busy airport providing quick and convenient flight links all across the island group, it’s easy – and enthralling – to build combinations with the majestic volcanoes and temples of Java, the sultry jungles of Sumatra and Kalimantan, the astonishing underwater wonders of Sumba and Raja Ampat, or the fascinating culture of Sulawesi.

Below we have laid out tour ideas for both Bali as a standalone trip, and also as a base from which to discover the wider Indonesian archipelago. With so much on offer you may find yourself coming back year after year – we guarantee you’ll never run out of adventures in this part of the world!

Bali & Indonesia Tours Q&A

What are the must-visit places for a first-time tour of Indonesia?

Bali is always top of everyone’s list…and these pages should hopefully do a good job of reaffirming that interest! Bali is large enough and varied enough to constitute a standalone trip in its own right, but if you have ample time and interest the most obvious pairings would be with Java to the west, or Flores and Komodo to the east. The former offers teeming volcanoes and majestic cultural ruins; the latter the magnificent Komodo National Park, with its dragons, snorkelling, and incredible island scenery.

I want to get off-the-beaten-path – where should I go?

Sumatra, Sulawesi, Raja Ampat, and West Papua are far-flung, adventurous destinations and typically suit and a second or third visit to the Indonesian archipelago. Each island is an itinerary in itself, and each offers a different kind of trip: Sumatra for exotic wildlife and majestic jungle scenery; Sulawesi for enthralling Toraja culture; Raja Ampat for unparalleled, totally off-grid and diving and snorkelling; and West Papua for feeling like you’re through the looking glass on a true voyage of discovery.

How are your tours operated?

All our trips are arranged on a 100% private, tailor-made basis. In Bali and throughout the rest of Indonesia you’ll have typically have a two-person private driver and guide team looking after you for all transport and sightseeing. Having fully private services on the ground allows our guides to adapt the itinerary on the fly, ensuring your interests are catered to and you make the very best of your time. We’ll also build in as much or as little leisure time as you wish to explore independently and do your own thing.

How long do I need for a tour of Indonesia?

A Bali-only trip could be as a little as 6-7 days; although compact this would be (just) enough time for a few nights around Ubud backed up with a beach break down on the south coast. A full round-island trip would require 10-12 days minimum. Pairing Bali with one or more of nearby Java, Lombok, or Flores would best be done in 13-14 days – or more…you really can’t ever stop exploring Indonesia, so the more time you have the better!

How do we get around Bali & Indonesia?

Tours of Bali are conducted 100% by road. No two parts of the island are more than 3-4 hours’ drive away, and the scenery is simply unforgettable, so these journeys are an absolute joy. Next-door Java is connected by a very short ferry transfer, so a full overland trip from Jakarta or Yogyakarta is enticingly possible. Otherwise, it’s short, comfortable, efficient domestic flights; Indonesia has half a dozen or more domestic airlines competing to keep fares cheap and service high: if you’re combining 2 or 3 islands you’ll probably become very familiar with them!
