Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 Lucerne: Arrival into Zurich

Lucerne, Switzerland

Upon arrival into Zurich Airport, you’ll be welcomed by your private driver for transfer to your hotel in Lucerne. After checking in, enjoy the stunning views this lakeside city offers, including a spectacular mountain panorama. It’s a lovely place to stroll with a well-preserved Old Town, cobbled lanes and painted veneers. Get lost in the maze of passageways and enjoy the colourful medieval architecture. If there’s time, you can even take a cruise aboard a vintage paddle-wheeler, getting a perspective of the breathtaking mountains from the water. There are a wide range of eateries for enjoying both traditional foods and modern fare too.

Day 2 Lucerne: Private Guided City Walking Tour

Lucerne, Switzerland

Today you’ll get a more in-depth look at Lucerne while learning about its history, culture and art on a private walking tour. Join your guide as you stroll the listening to stories of its medieval days. You’ll be mesmerised by its castles, towers, churches, picturesque bridges and the Renaissance-style Rathaus (town hall) with its Emmentaler-style roof. After exploring you’ll have the remainder of the day to yourself, perhaps taking the boat from Lucerne to hop on the world’s steepest railroad, climbing to Mt. Pilatus. You’ll enjoy breathtaking views at the top and there are several restaurants for dining too.

Day 3 Interlaken: Transfer from Lucerne with a Stop at Grandhotel Giessbach

Interlaken, Switzerland

Traveling to the next destination, your private driver will meet you at your hotel for the drive to Interlocken, the gateway to the Bernese Highlands, home to Jungrau Mountain. Along the way you’ll stop for a few hours at Grandhotel Giessbach near Giessbach Falls, surrounded by forests and mountains high above Lake Brienz. You can ride the cable car to see the magnificent waterfalls and perhaps enjoy lunch with a view before continuing to Interlake which straddles the beautiful lakes of Thun and Brienz, linked by the River Aare and its turquoise water, while surrounded by some of the country’s most famous peaks.

Day 4 Interlaken: Optional Jungfraujoch Tour

Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland

Enjoy the day to explore on your own. You might take a tour to the Jungfraujoch tucked between the 13,100-foot-high Monch and Jungrau mountains. Ride the highest railroad in Europe and tour the “Top of Europe” complex, one of the highest observatories in the world, visiting picturesque Lauterbrunnen village on the way. Or head to the mountaintop Schiltorn Station by train, bus, and cable car for jaw-dropping views. There is a restaurant atop the peak that rotates and was used in the James Bond movie, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” An exhibition focused on its role in the film is featured too.

Day 5 Bern: Transfer from Interlaken + walking tour of Old City Bern

Bern, Switzerland

Continuing to Bern today, your private driver will pick you up from your hotel for the less than an hour’s drive, but we suggest stopping to visit Spiez Castle and charming Thun with its sweeping views of the Alps. After arriving in the Swiss capital, you won’t see massive government buildings, rather beautiful arcades, fountains, clock-towers and colourful homes. After checking into your hotel you’ll join a local guide for a walking tour of the UNESCO-protected Old Town which sits on a peninsula surrounded by the turquoise Aare River. Stroll the winding alleyways while getting to know the local life, history and culture.

Day 6 Zurich: Private Guided City Tour

Zurich, Switzerland

This morning you’ll head to the final destination of your trip, Zurich. Your private driver will bring you to the train station in Bern for the approximately two-hour journey. After you’ll checked into your accommodation in the city, meet your private guide for a tour. It can be customised by visiting the sights you most want to see, choose to visit the major landmarks or just let your local guide show you around and answer any questions you might have. Zurich has a lovely Old Town with cobbled streets and medieval architecture, with its top attractions the Lindenhof, Swiss National Museum and Bahnhofstrasse.

Day 7 Zurich: Day of Leisure

Zurich, Switzerland

Your last full day will be enjoyed at your leisure. We suggest taking in a view from the top of lush Uetliberg hill. It can be reached by hopping on the streetcar from the Fifa World Football Museum or via train from the main station. If you travel by streetcar, after getting off it’s a pleasant 20-minute hike to the top, with the Planetenweg, or Planets Path route passing models of planets that provides a good understanding of the true size of the solar system. When you reach your destination above the city, you’ll enjoy the fresh air, nature and a gorgeous panorama.

Day 8 Departure

Zurich, Switzerland

With a week already gone by, your discovery of beautiful “German” Switzerland comes to an end this morning. After checking out of your hotel, you’ll be met by private transfer for the short drive to Zurich’s airport to catch your flight home. If you’d like to extend your time here or explore other captivating destinations, our travel experts will be happy to help.
