As the backdrop to one of the most iconic Disney films ever created – the Lion King – Kenya is up there when it comes to choosing a safari honeymoon destination. The savannahs of the Masai Mara offer extensive views to enjoy your morning coffee and evening tipple. National parks like the Masai Mara, Amboseli, Tsavo, and the Samburu all offer such a dense amount of wildlife, including impressive elephant herds, giraffe, lion prides, leopard, cheetah, hippo, and a magnitude of endemic and migratory bird species. There is no question about it, Kenya is one of the most impressive safari destinations for your honeymoon.

As well as unforgettable safaris, Kenya is also home to a stunning coastline to the east, which can be combined into a private tour. It is easy and efficient to fly between the safari destination and the coast, so you can enjoy a game drive in the morning and a cocktail on the white sand beach in the afternoon! Along the coast of Mombasa and Diani beach, there are plenty of quaint boutique hotels as well as larger resorts with lots of facilities, so whatever you are looking for for your honeymoon, Kenya can certainly accommodate. It is also possible to combine a Kenya safari with another beach destination, like the Seychelles or Zanzibar Island. We can help assist with the logistics between, and curate a seamless Kenya honeymoon for you.

Where to Go in Kenya

Wildebeest Migration, Kenya

When to Visit Kenya

Kenya is located close to the equator so temperatures are pleasant year-round. The only time to avoid would be the April to early June period which is the rainy season across Kenya. It’s also worth noting the end of March can get very humid, heating up before the rains cool things down. Aside from those months, expect warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine throughout the day during the year. For safaris, the game viewing will be great year-round, but the period between July and September will be exceptional, especially in the Masai Mara. This is because the vegetation is lower, as well as the chance to see the wildebeest migration in the plains of the Masai Mara reserve and the greater conservancies, as they make their way up from the Serengeti.

Kenya Honeymoon Q&A

Which are the best safari camps for honeymooners?

There are too many to choose from! In many ways, this comes down to personal preference and what sort of accommodation you like as a couple. That said, there are a handful of safari camps that truly do give the wow factor when it comes to honeymoon picks. These include Sanctuary Olonana (in the Masai Mara), Loisaba Starbeds (Laikipia Plateau), and Naboisho Camp (Naboisho Conservancy) to name a few. These all offer luxury accommodation with a little something special.

Are there honeymoon offers we can benefit from on safari?

Some safari camps and lodges (and beach properties) do offer honeymoon packages. This can range from a couples’ massage or a romantic candlelit dinner to a free night’s accommodation if you stay a certain number of nights. Our specialists keep a close eye on honeymoon deals and new products so we will of course share these with you, but it’s worth noting that most camps will offer honeymoon deals outside of the peak season.

How much is a Kenya safari honeymoon?

There are many choices of safari accommodation across Kenya, but an entry-level safari would be around the $3,500 per person mark. Our specialists spend a lot of time out in the bush visiting these safari camps and lodges – so we only recommend the camps we feel offer the best location, game viewing, and guiding. We will guide you through the planning process, and curate a Kenya honeymoon based on your interests and budget.

What experiences will make our Kenya honeymoon special?

The people in Kenya are extremely warm and kind-hearted. They will go the extra mile in making sure you are looked after, especially during your time on safari. We will work with the safari camps to provide some unforgettable moments along the way, such as candlelit dinners in the bush or a private bush breakfast. If you’re looking for something even more memorable though, you can do things like hot air balloon rides over the savannahs, experience a night fly-camping under the stars, or even go camel riding in untouched reserves.
