Curieuse
Curieuse is an uninhabited, bio-reserve island, a marine national park, and a former leper colony known as Île Rouge, named for its russet-toned soil. Today, travelers can explore the ruins of an old leprosarium and a doctor’s home that’s been preserved as a national monument. The top reason to come here, however, is its giant tortoises, with a breeding program that allows the animals to roam freely in the sandy coves. You can stroll right alongside the mammoths as they meander through the coco-de-mer trees – a rare and unique type of flora only found here and on Praslin Island.
