Black River Gorges National Park
The largest national park in Mauritius, Black River Gorges covers 6,000 hectares filled with striking natural beauty, making it arguably the most beautiful of the island’s parks too. If you only have time for one, this should be it. It’s inhabited by the endangered pink pigeon, echo parakeet, Mauritius kestrel, giant fruit bats, and more than 300 species of flowering plants. Deer, macaque monkeys, and wild boar often wander through. Bring a camera and your good hiking shoes to take it all in by hitting the trails. You’ll also encounter awe-inspiring views of waterfalls, mountain peaks, and gorges.
