If you’re looking to splurge on an exotic luxury honeymoon, the Maldives is an idyllic haven, stretched out like a string of pearls in the Indian Ocean. It’s known for its high-end private island resorts, perfect for honeymooners who are assured tranquil seclusion and the utmost in service, often complete with a personal butler and decadent spa treatments. Honeymooners are often catered to here. Of the 1,200 islands here, around 200 are inhabited, so you’ll have many choices whether you want to base yourself on one or enjoy island-hopping on a small-cruise ship. Every one of them offers something unique of its own, but all are breathtakingly beautiful, with unspoiled soft white sands and translucent aquamarine water.

This is a destination made for those who love the underwater world, with unrivaled snorkeling and diving among an incredible diversity of marine life, including numerous corals, colorful reef fish, sea turtles, moray eels, rays, dolphins, and more. And, once the sun begins to sink into the ocean, a sunset champagne cruise or romantic candlelit dinner on the beach is the perfect way to end the day. You’ll find the gastronomic scene to be exquisite and diverse, with everything from international gourmet fare to authentic local bites.

When to Visit the Maldives

The Maldives experience warm, tropical weather year-round, with average highs consistently around the mid-80s Fahrenheit. The peak season is January through April, the driest period here with low humidity and little rain. This is the busiest time to visit so you’ll need to be prepared to pay more for room rates and book well in advance. Rain is more likely the rest of the year and there is also a risk for storms, but sunshine is usually plentiful. It’s ideal for surfers with strong winds and bigger waves. If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly trip to the Maldives, consider May through December.
