Chile Honeymoons

Chile offers an idyllic honeymoon destination for totally escaping the “real world” and immersing yourself among magnificent scenery, with everything from secluded beaches to towering mountains, crystal-clear lakes, fjords, and glaciers. Of course, there are also exciting cities where you can dance the night away and perhaps learn the tango together. This is a vast country, long and thin, it spans more than 2,600 miles from the center of South America’s west coast to the southern tip of the continent, which means you have a lot of terrain to consider. Chile offers a little bit of everything, whether you two are outdoor adventurers looking to take part in epic walks that bring views of the renowned Torres del Paine in Patagonia, wine enthusiasts who want to enjoy touring and tasting at world-class wineries, or explore historical and cultural attractions. Wildlife lovers will find plenty too, with pink flamingos in high-altitude lagoons, guanacos that roam Patagonian landscapes, Andean condors soaring through the skies, and even whales and penguins in places like Chanaral de Aceituno.

Where to Go in Chile

  • Santiago Chile 1 402x402 1

    Santiago

The cosmopolitan center and capital of Chile, Santiago is surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Andes and the Chilean coastal range, providing a magnificent setting for enjoying its many delights. There are world-class museums and impressive art to marvel at while wandering through both modern areas and the cobbled streets of older barrios. Explore suburban parks, take in a view over the city from Sky Costanera, a glass skyscraper rising high above it all, and enjoy refreshing drinks at a trendy bar in the bohemian Barrio Bellavista. Beaches for sunbathing and wineries for tasting can be enjoyed with just a short jaunt too.

  • Torres Del Paine Patagonia Chile 402x402 1

    Torres del Paine National Park

A bucket-list destination, there are few better places for adventure-loving honeymooners than Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia, Chile’s southernmost region. Its beauty is practically unrivaled, with towering granite spires that soar over 6,500 feet above the wild landscape. Glaciers carved out the terrain and can be seen sweeping down to valleys and hanging over cliffs, eventually caving into lagoons in a brilliant shade of turquoise. There are countless scenic trails that can be hiked, traveling through dense forest along rushing rivers to jewel-like lakes and glistening glaciers. Along the way, watch for everything from guanacos and rheas to flamingos and Andean condors.

  • Moon Valley Atacama Desert Chile 402x402 1

    Atacama Desert

The desert offers plenty of romantic moments, with the Atacama known as one of the best places for stargazing on the planet due to the lack of rainfall, the high altitude, and almost always clear night skies. A toast under a canopy of stars here can be a memory of a lifetime. You’ll find plenty to see and do during the day too, from marveling at flamingos in the still waters of an azure lagoon to gazing at otherworldly-like landscapes with rock formations and giant sand dunes that mimic the moon’s surface at Calle de la Luna, or “Valley of the Moon.”

  • Valparaiso Chile 402x402 1

    Valparaiso

Valparaiso is Chile’s second-largest city, set along the Pacific 90 minutes north of the capital. Nestled in the hills, it’s known for its bohemian culture and filled with history. Climb the ramshackle streets with Victorian buildings, soaking up the vibe while exploring the impressive street art, the architecture, and delving into the happening nightlife. One of the top things for couples and all visitors to do is ride a rickety funicular to a hilltop and walk the pathways that wind around the slopes. There’s a fabulous food scene and nearby you’ll find two of the country’s best beaches, Renaca and Vina del Mar.

When to Visit Chile

The answer to “When to visit Chile?” depends on the destinations you plan to travel as the country includes multiple different climate zones. Santiago, the central valleys, and the Atacama Desert can be comfortably visited in any season, although December through February is the high season which means you’ll need to book accommodation well in advance. For Patagonia, the warmest temperatures are enjoyed between October and March, a time that the region will be more accessible and temperatures average in the low 70s Fahrenheit from December through March. Enjoy spring blooms, frequent sunny skies, and fewer crowds in October and November.
