Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 Zurich: Arrival into Zurich, Switzerland
Upon your arrival to Zurich Airport, private transfer will bring you to your hotel in the city, Europe’s wealthiest and one of the world’s top financial centers. Once you’ve settled in, you might want to experience this shopper’s paradise. Along Bahnofstrasse you’ll find high-end stores selling brands like Chanel and Gucci, or to shop like the locals, head to Viaduktstrasse, home to the Viaduct Market, offering locally designed and produced fashions, ideal for your outdoor adventures. This is also a great spot to dine on variety of cuisine, including both local specialities like Zurcher Geschnetzeltes as well as international dishes.
Day 2 Zurich: Private eTukTuk Tour
Take a private guided tour of Zurich in an eTukTuk, an eco-friendly electric powered vehicle. You’ll travel from the Old Town with its guild houses and historic landmarks lining romantic narrow streets, to the shopping district. Continue through the famed recreational district and on to district 5 known as “Zurich West,” the city’s “cool” neighbourhood, a trendy hangout among creative types with underground caves and dive bars. Afterwards we recommend heading to the top of Uetliberg hill for a beautiful view of the city. Take the streetcar followed by a 20-minute trek, passing models of the planets in our solar system along the way.
Day 3 Lucerne: Private Guided Walking Tour
Travel to the train station via private transfer this morning for the one-hour journey to Lucerne where you’ll feel as if you’ve gone back in time to medieval days. After getting settled into your room, a local guide will bring you on a private tour. Some of the sights you might see in this lakeside city include the two historic covered wooden bridges, Chapel Bridge and Spreuer Bridge, the latter of which is often referred to as the “Dance of Death” bridge with its series of macabre paintings. You’ll see one of Switzerland’s most well-preserved defensive walls and ramparts too.
Day 4 Lucerne: Day of Leisure
Enjoy the day at your leisure, taking in what interests you most. If you’d like, you can choose to take an optional private guided tour that begins with a scenic cruise on Lake Lucerne. Disembark at Alpnachstad and then ride the world’s steepest cogwheel trail to the top of nearly 7,000-foot-high Mount Pilatus. At the summit you can dine in one of the eateries or enjoy refreshments on the terrace with a panoramic view over Lucerne and the Alps. On your return, descend via the aerial cableway to Fräkmüntegg followed by riding a gondola to Kriens. A trolleybus will return you to Lucerne.
Day 5 Zermatt: Transfer from Lucerne
Saying farewell to Lucerne, your next destination is Zermatt. Your private driver will transfer to you the train station for the approximately three-hour journey. Upon your arrival, you’ll transfer via electric cart to your hotel as Zermatt is car-free. You’ll immediately be impressed with the towering, nearly 14,700-foot-high Matterhorn overlooking the town. Enjoy wandering or relaxing at your leisure – we recommend heading to one of the world-class spas for an indulgent treatment. If you want to learn more about the history of the village, visit the Matterhorn Museum. You’ll find a wide range of culinary experiences too, from traditional eats to the latest creations.
Day 6 Zermatt: Day of Leisure
You’ll have the day to yourself although we suggest conquering one of the summits for breathtaking views of the Matterhorn and Weisshorn. You can ride the cable car to the summit of Unterrothorn, more often referred to as the Rothorn, the starting point for many challenging hikes. It’s also a popular spot for paragliding, fun and watch and photograph. If you’re up for a difficult albeit relatively short hike, a 1.8-mile trek that climbs over 11,200 feet between Rothorn and Oberrothorn brings dazzling views of 38 13,000-foot or higher peaks in three countries. It takes about 2.5 hours to complete.
Day 7 Zermatt: Matterhorn Paradise
After viewing the magical Matterhorn over the last couple of days, today you’ll get to summit it by riding a cable car to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, the highest ski area in Europe. You can choose to go with or without a local guide, travelling to the highest viewing platform on the continent before visiting Gorner Glacier’s ice caves, ranked among the world’s best. This is the second largest glacier in the Alps. Originally explore by professionals who had to dig their way in. Once inside you’ll be surrounded by a vision of striking beauty with glistening ice tinged by turquoise hues.
Day 8 Geneva: Transfer by Train from Zermatt
Taking an electric car to Zermatt’s train station, travel by train to your next destination, Geneva. Upon arrival to the city’s main station your private driver will transfer you to your hotel. Enjoy relaxing or head to the Old Town, “Le Vieux Carouge,” which boasts a unique mix of Italian and French architecture as well as cultural links to the Mediterranean region. A former trade hub, today you’ll still see a wide range of artisans and craftsmen creating traditional pieces by hand. Sometimes compared to Sardinia in Italy, this fun bohemian area is filled with lively cafes, restaurants, bars and antique shops.
Day 9 Geneva: Private Guided Walking Tour
Meet your private guide for a walking tour focused on Geneva’s daily life and history. The city is known for its key role in the reformation and is often referred to as the “Protestant Rome,” with 12th-century St. Peter’s Cathedral one of the most important buildings. You’ll also learn why Geneva has long-been associated with human rights, through modern exhibitions at the Red Crescent Museum and International Red Cross. See the Palace of nations, constructed to host the League of Nations, which has been the home of the United Nations for nearly 75 years. Explore its many works of art on a guided tour.
Day 10 Geneva: Day of Leisure/Optional Wine Tasting or Hiking/Biking Tour
While today is at your leisure you can choose an optional excursion, perhaps a wine tasting tour in the Lavaux wine region which runs alongside Lake Geneva. It can be visited on your own, but a guided tour is advised, highlighting lakeside wine terraces and tastings of local hand-selected varietals. If you want to get more active, head to Mont Saleve, on foot or via cable car. At the top you can hike, mountain bike, climb or even paraglide. You’ll also enjoy a spectacular panorama of the city below as well as the Alps and Mont-Blanc massif from the south-east side.
Day 11 Departure
After 10 night of travelling through beautiful Switzerland from east to west, your trip comes to an end. Depending on the time of your flight you might be able to savour your last moments in the city with a peaceful stroll. After checking out of your hotel in Geneva, your private driver will meet you for the transfer to the airport where you’ll catch your flight home, or to wherever your travel s might take you.
