On this 16 day highlights tour of Morocco, you will visit all the destinations this beautiful country is famous for. You will stay in historic riads (a traditional morocco house) that have been renovated into luxury hotels located in the heart of the old towns. You will walk through the ancient cities of Tangiers, Fes, Marrakech and Essaouira exploring the markets and learning about their history. Your guide will take you walking in the magnificent Atlas Mountains and sleep in a luxury camp in the desert. You will be escorted on your tour by your own personal guide, your sightseeing will be tailor-made, you plan your own pace.

Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival into Tangiers airport
Welcome to Morocco! On arrival, you will be met by a private driver in the arrivals hall of Tangiers Airport. You will then be transferred to your hotel in the heart of the old Medina in Tangiers. Your driver will provide you with an overview of what to expect before you check-in and enjoy dinner at your hotel this evening.
You will be spending the next two nights at Zahia Palace which is superbly located in the Petit Socco, one of the oldest parts of the Medina. It is the perfect place to stay to explore the markets and culture of the city. This historic building comprises of only 18 rooms and has been beautifully restored
in the traditional style. Each room offers air conditioning and well-appointed ensuite bathrooms. Zahia Palace has a lovely
restaurant on the property if you wanted to stay in for dinner and a rooftop terrace for a sunset drink looking out over the sea.
Day 2 Tangiers Tour
Your guide will meet you this morning for your day of exploring Tangiers. Your touring is private and bespoke, this is a suggestion for what you may like to do.
For centuries Tangiers has been the gateway to Africa from Europe, the city has a vibrant culture, a mix of European and Moroccan. The medina (old town) is a maze of alleys and your guide will help you explore the ancient streets and souk (market place). You will then walk through the diplomatic neighbourhood -The Pasteur Boulevard and the Plaza of France. This area still retains the 1930s glamour that Tangiers was famous for. You will then will visit the Cap Spartel with spectacular views on the Strait of Gibraltar. Your guide will then take you on a 10 minute drive outside of town to visit Hercules Cave, these natural caves are named in Greek Mythology as where Hercules went to rest and recuperate. This evening we suggest you take a walk through the media as the old town comes alive at night.
Day 3 Chefchaouen
Today you can have a leisurely morning before meeting your guide for the 3 hour drive to the town of Chefchaouen. You will spend 2 nights at Dar Echchaouen which is located on the edge of the Media near Ras El Maa. Each room is decorated in the traditional Moroccan Style, rooms have air conditioning and are en suite. There is a restaurant that serves Moroccan dishes including couscous, tagine and pastille. With a swimming pool set in a beautiful garden and a private hammam, this is the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring Chefchaouen.
Day 4 Chefchaouen Tour
Your guide will meet you this morning for your day of exploring Chefchaouen. Your touring is private and bespoke, this is a suggestion for what you may like to do.
Chefchaouen is a mountain town and is famous for its blue Andalusian buildings. Originally built in the 15th century, by Moorish and Jewish people fleeing the Reconquista of Spain. This will be a walking tour to explore the narrow streets of this beautiful city. In the shady main square of Place Outa el Hammam is the red-walled Kasbah, a 15th-century fortress, the area is full of cafes where the locals meet for a drink. Whilst enjoying a local mint tea, you can watch the local people go about their daily life. Chefchaouen gives visitors a glimpse of a more rural way of life as opposed to the larger busy cities.
Day 5 Fes
This morning your guide will meet you and you will depart Chefchaouen. The drive is approximately 4 hours but you will stop to do a tour of Meknes en route. You will walk through the old part of the town and in the heart of Meknes is the twelfth century Grand Mosque and the Bab el-Mansour (gateway). You will also visit the ruins of the Roman city of Volubilis, founded in the 3rd century B.C.
You will spend 4 nights at Dar Seffarine which is a 600-year-old house that has been beautifully restored by master craftsmen. The riad has six spacious suites, with en suite bathrooms, all uniquely decorated in keeping with the local style. The hotel is an oasis of peace and calm surrounded by the bustling markets of Fes. Located in the old medina of Fes, it’s the perfect location to explore this ancient city. The hotel serves breakfast on its rooftop terrace with spectacular views over the city.
Day 6 Fes Tour
Your guide will meet you this morning for your day of exploring Fes. Your touring is private and bespoke, this is a suggestion for what you may like to do.
Located in the northeast of Morocco, Fes is generally considered to be the cultural capital of the country. Fes was established in the 9th century and is home to the world’s oldest university, founded in 859 AD. It is known for its fortified medina (old town) and medieval architecture. It has a large, busy souk (market), perfect to go shopping for Moroccan spices. The centre of the medina is Nejjarine Square and its famous fountain. You will visit the colourful tannery of Fes and marvel at the original ramparts, that still protect this ancient city with its bustling streets and some 9,000 different passageways. You will continue your exploration with visits to the Bouanania Medersa, Mouley Driss Mausoleum, the Karaouiyine Mosque and the oldest University in the world.
Day 7 Moroccan Cooking Class
Today you will be met by a local chef who will take you into the local souk (market) to shop for fresh ingredients for the meal you will prepare. The chef will guide you through the markets explaining the core elements of Moroccan cuisine and help you select the best ingredients. You will then go to the chef’s riad to learn how to cook some of the staple Moroccan dishes. You and your chef will eat your dish for lunch, where you may choose to try eating “à la Marocaine”, using bread and your right hand, instead of a fork and knife. After your meal, sit back, relax, and enjoy a complimentary pot of refreshing Moroccan mint tea.
Day 8 Atlas Mountain Tour
Today your guide will meet you and take you out into the Middle Atlas Mountains for some gentle hiking and to see the local Berber villages. The tour is private so you can discuss with your guide how long you would like to hike for and how strenuous the paths are. The beautiful forested slopes of the mountains and the famous waterfalls of Cascades Ouzoud are picturesque and peaceful place to hike. The Berber refer to themselves as the Amazigh, which is believed to mean “free people” or “noblemen”. Many maintain a nomadic lifestyle closely resembling their ancestor’s way of life, others have built clay houses and villages in the mountains. You will also be able to visit and learn about the local villages and a way of life that has not changed in generations.
Day 9 Sahara Desert
Today you will leave Fes and head into the Middle Atlas Mountains. The drive is approximately 6 hours but you will stop in the small town of Midelt and then continue to Erfoud, a small oasis town in the Sahara Desert. You will then change your vehicle, to a 4 x 4 vehicle transfer through the sand dunes to your desert camp for the night.
You will spend the night at Sahara Stars Camp which is an intimate desert camp comprising of just 8 tents in the Berber design. Each tent is comfortably furnished with an en suite bathroom. You will head out over the sand dunes on 4 x 4 vehicles to watch the sunset in the desert before returning to camp. In the evening there is a traditional Berber tent where you will have dinner, accompanied by local Berber people performing music. In the morning you will meet your guide to take you to start your camel trek out into the desert to watch the sunrise.
Day 10 Ouarzazate
Today you will leave your desert camp and rejoin your guide. You will sightsee on your way to the town of Ouarzazate. You will stop at the Todra and Dades Gorges and pass through the Valley of the Roses. You will then take a guided tour of the Atlas Cinema Studios. This studio in the desert has been the set for many famous productions including Game of Thrones and Gladiator. The driving time today is approximately 5 hours.
You will spend the night at Dar Kamar which is the old courthouse located in the Taourirt Kasbah (old fortified town) in the old part of Ouarzazate. The building is constructed in the old way, with sun-dried earth bricks. With just 14 rooms and a stunning terrace, this guesthouse has all the modern comforts you would need. This includes wifi, air conditioning and en suite bathrooms.
Day 11 Ait Benhaddou Tour
Today your guide will take you to explore the ksar of Ait Benhaddou. A ksar is a traditional Saharan village, consisting of earthen buildings surrounded by a high fortified wall. Ait Benhaddou is an exceptionally well preserved ksar located on the historic caravan route between the Sahara Desert and Marrakech. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. The ksar is famous and has been used as Yunkai (the slave city) in Game of Thrones, Gladiator and many other productions.
You will then continue on to Marrakech to your hotel, Riad El Fenn where you will spend the next 3 nights. The riad is a large townhouse perfectly located on the edge of the Medina of Marrakech close to the Bab El Ksour gate. Built like a fortress, the ancient walls of the hotel are over a metre thick, providing an oasis of beauty and peace amid the noise and bustle of the medina. The riad comprises of 28 luxury rooms with air conditioning, a sitting area and an ensuite bathroom. The hotel has two pools, a restaurant and a rooftop terrace. The riad also has a hammam if you would like to relax after a day of touring.
Day 12 Marrakech Tour
Your guide will meet you this morning for your day of exploring Marrakech. Your touring is private and bespoke, this is a suggestion for what you may like to do. Enjoy a guided tour of the city this morning, visiting highlights like Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs and Koutoubia Mosque. You will visit the Yves Saint Laurent Museum an extraordinary museum dedicated to his work. You will then continue to the famous Majorelle Gardens, constructed in the 1920s by the French painter Jacques Majorelle. It is renowned for a dark blue colour (‘Majorelle Blue’) that many of the buildings are painted in.
This afternoon you’ll take a trip to the souks and famous Djemaa el Fna square, the epicentre of Marrakech. The lively atmosphere generates an exciting buzz accommodating a variety of tastes with everything from snake charmers to musicians, tattoo artists and merchants with fascinating shops. The perfect place to spend some time exploring and taking it all in.
Day 13 Free Day Marrakech
Today is a free day for you to explore the area, some suggestions for your day:
- You could take a morning hot air balloon trip over the desert to see it from the air followed by a Berber brunch.
- Have a special Moroccon dinner accompanied by Berber parades, musicians, acrobats and oriental dancers.
- Try a hammam which is a traditional Moroccan bathing ritual. It varies from place to place but the general process is that you soak in a pool or steam room, you are then exfoliated before being rinsed and then massaged.
Day 14 Essaouira
Today you will leave Marrakech and drive 2hrs 30mins to the coastal town of Essaouira. You will spend 2 nights at the stunning Heure Bleue Palais. Abandoned for almost 30 years, this former palatial residence has been fully renovated, returning it to its former glory. It is now a luxury hotel in the heart of the medina. It has 33 luxury rooms arranged around the central courtyard. The rooftop pool overlooks the town and the ramparts and is the perfect place to enjoy a sunset drink. The in house restaurant offers wonderful local food which can be enjoyed in the open-air courtyard. The spa offers the traditional hammam experience which uses the Moroccan argan oil that is produced locally.
Day 15 Essaouira Tour
Your guide will meet you this morning for your day of exploring Essaouira. Your touring is private and bespoke, this is a suggestion for what you may like to do.
Essaouira is a small relaxed town on the Atlantic coast. It has a peaceful medina where you can shop undisturbed and many stalls have fixed prices. If you head down to the fish market you can see a way of life that is unchanged for many generations. The port is full of beautiful blue boats, which makes for a great photo! There is a beach, but the wind tends to make it a walking beach rather than a sunbathing one. The Skala du Port is the cities ramparts and have featured in many movies and programs (including Game of Thrones as the city of Astapor).
Day 16 Depart Marrakech
Today you will enjoy breakfast and a final walk in Essaouira before your guide meets you to transfer you to Marrakech Airport for your onward flight.
