Botswana is renowned as the most pristine safari destination in the world. The government follows a low volume eco tourism policy. This has preserved the country’s wilderness and reserves, allowing guests to have a true wilderness experience on safari. This nine night itinerary visits three areas of outstanding natural beauty; the arid plains of the Central Kalahari, the water ways of the Okavango Delta and the marshes and woodland of the Linyanti Concession. Combining these very different landscapes gives guests the opportunity to see a wide range of wildlife and really experience all Botswana has to offer. You will be staying in remote areas, far from the crowds, during this intimate, luxury safari.

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive Maun, transfer to Central Kalahari

Kalahari Cheetah

On arrival into Maun Airport in Botswana you will be met and assisted to your light aircraft for your flight to the Central Kalahari. The reserve is one of the largest in the world with huge areas of grass land. This arid habitat is home to the legendary Kalahari black maned lion as well as outstanding cheetah viewings. There is minimal tourism in the area and is an unexplored wilderness.

Day 2 Kalahari Plains Camp, Central Kalahari Reserve

    Kalahari Plains Bedroom

The camp is located on the edge of an enormous pan close to Deception Valley. The camp comprises of eight en-suite canvas suites with a sleep out platform where you can choose to sleep under the Kahalari stars. Depending on the time of year the landscape is very different. In the winter you can enjoy a classic desert landscape. In the summer, the rains transform this desert into green plains. The game viewing is plentiful all year round and is especially known for its big cat sightings as well as the smaller animals, Cape Fox, Honey Badger and Mongoose.

Day 3 Kalahari Plains Camp, Central Kalahari Reserve

      Kalahari Plains

Every day you will head out on a morning and afternoon game drive with your experienced ranger. The camp also offers its guests the opportunity to go on a guided walk to learn more about the life of the San Bushmen, the tribe of the local area.

Day 4 Transfer to Okavango Delta

        Little Vumbura Room

This morning you will enjoy your morning game drive before you are transferred to the airstrip for your flight into the Okavango Delta. Little Vumbura Camp is located in a private concession in the north of the Delta.  The camp is built on a private island surrounded by water and comprises of six luxury tented rooms. Each room is ensuite with a private deck and plunge pool.

Day 5 Little Vumbura Camp, Okavango Delta

          Mokoro Delta

The camp has an outstanding location where guests can enjoy game viewing activities on land and water. This variety of habitat is what makes the game viewing at Little Vumbura exceptionally good. As it is a remote private concession, you will not see other guests, it is your own piece of wilderness.

Activities here include a mokoro trip (traditional canoe), a motorboat trip, a guided walk or a traditional game drive.

Day 6 Little Vumbura Camp, Okavango Delta

            Vumbra Leopard

There is an option while you are at Little Vumbura to book a helicopter flight or hot air balloon trip to see the Delta from the air (additional cost). The camp also offers night drives where you can head out into the reserve in search of the nocturnal wildlife and try to spot porcupines, bush babies, owls and aardwolf.

Day 7 Transfer to Linyanti Tented Camp

              Linyanti Lion Wilderness Safaris

This morning you will enjoy your morning game drive before you are transferred to the airstrip for your flight into the Linyanti Concession. The area is dominated by the Linyanti River and the marshes it creates along with the woodlands along the water. In the dry season the water attracts large herds of elephants in search of water.  The area is also known for its lion, leopard, wild dog and hyena sightings.

Day 8 Linyanti Tented Camp, Linyanti Concession

                Linyanti Camp Room

This small camp overlooks the marshes and flood plains, just four en suite tents built on raised decks. The camp offers morning and afternoon game drives, night drives and game walks out into the reserve. Walking in a reserve is an amazing experience and allows you to appreciate the smaller wildlife that is often missed on a game drive. A walk would normally last two – three hours and you will be accompanied by an armed specialist guide. Your guide will show you have to track animals on foot and show you the smaller insects and plants of the reserve.

Day 9 Linyanti Tented Camp, Linyanti Concession

                  Linyanti Game Drive

The camp has a log pile hide, a small structure built in the bush where guests can sit and get close to the wildlife. You get unbelievably close to the elephants as they walk past, and they have no idea you are there. This offers photographers the opportunity to take some outstanding photographs.

Day 10 Transfer to Maun, depart

                    Wild Dog

Today you will head out on your last game drive before returning to the camp for breakfast. Your guide will transfer you to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight back to Maun for your onward flight connection.

You can extend your trip to include a few nights in Victoria Falls, please talk to your consultant for further details.
