See your reflection in the blue-green waters of Moraine Lake
One of the world’s most photographed scenes lies in the heart of Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies. Glacially fed Moraine Lake sits at an elevation of around 6,000 feet, and in late June, its water level rises and is transformed into a brilliant shade of turquoise that’s so striking it’s hard to believe it’s real. The unique color is due to the refraction of light off the rock flour deposited in the lake continuously by the surrounding glaciers. You’ll often see deer, and the occasional bear, along the shoreline too.
