Let Us Plan Your Travel to England and Scotland

Massive metropolises juxtaposed by quaint small towns, vast cathedrals dominating village skylines, and mysterious ruins toppling over windswept shores, a tour of England and Scotland is equal measures history and culture, quaintness and magnificence.

Begin in London, Europe’s cultural powerhouse for weekends immersed in art and grandiosity, for walks in elegant Royal parks and (pub) crawls through Soho and the West End. Choose modernity towering over ancient history in the skyscraper-dominated city, or the stately mansions of Mayfair followed by the markets and old dock atmosphere of London Bridge.

A slow journey along the river Avon in Bath offers an elegant slice of English history fused to that of Rome — with old Roman baths and sophisticated Georgian townhouses surrounded by the verdant Somerset countryside. Follow the changeable British weather north through England’s farmland and coastal scenery as it steadily climbs to the windswept cinematics of the Scottish Highlands to see the legendary Scots lochs and charming Highland cows.

Edinburgh, the Scottish capital, offers an immersive city trip that acts, not just as a superb introduction to Scottish culture with its medieval core of old architecture, Scottish pubs, and restaurants (try the haggis with a side of neeps and tatties), but also as a gateway to whiskey tastings in renowned distilleries, nights in romantic castles and hikes around the shores of iconic Scottish lochs.

Our experts know England and Scotland like the back of their hand and have travelled extensively around the country. We have put together some trips and tours to get you inspired.

Where to Go

  • London Skyline at Dusk 1 1

    London

The capital of the UK and a breathtaking confluence of history, culture, and modernity, London is a must-see on every tour of England and Scotland. Tour the major sights: the Tower of London, the London Eye, and Hyde Park, certainly but take a little time for the creative hub of East London, the theaters and bars of the West End, and the sights along the River Thames: ornate Greenwich, delightful Wapping, and the newly regenerated Battersea Park Power Station. Stay in lavish London hotels and experience the charm of afternoon tea, or walk the mews of Bloomsbury after an afternoon in the British Museum, and settle in a homely pub for the evening.

  • Bath Street Signes 1

    Bath

Honey-hued Bath is a delight, with a newly part-pedestrianized center making it not just a stunning slice of UNESCO-listed sightseeing (the whole old town is a World Heritage site) but also a sublime shopping destination, with arts and crafts shops, local artisans, and a flourishing cafe scene in which to indulge tasty English teas and cakes. Bath’s sights are manifold, with intensely atmospheric Roman baths, the grand Bath Abbey, the elegant half-moon-shaped Royal Crescent, and the stunning Pulteney Bridge — one of only 4 bridges in the world to have shops built across its entire span (similar to Florence’s Ponte Vecchio). Additionally, Bath is an ideal base from which to explore the nearby creative center of Bristol and the outstanding beauty of the Cotswolds.

  • 670 x 400 Edinburgh Castle 1

    Edinburgh

Edinburgh’s old streets are some of Europe’s most delightful, with attractive architecture spanning multiple generations across two distinct areas — the old and new towns. Edinburgh’s Old Town offers medieval spires and turrets rising from narrow alleyways, crags, and rocky hilltops, while the New Town is a sublime quarter of elegant Georgian facades lined neatly along symmetrical streets ideal for city walks, and late nights in a new generation of Edinburgh cocktail bars that favor the old basements of the New Town. Travel away from the Royal Mile and the vast Edinburgh castle atop Castle Hill, and you’ll find another side of Edinburgh: one that sweeps from the view-filled countryside hilltops of Holyrood Park to the languid north sea vistas and world-renowned restaurants of Leith.

  • 670 x 400 Highlands Panorama

    The Highlands

Scotland’s Highlands never fail to capture the hearts and souls of all who grace them. Inky lochs give rise to ancient legends, told from an old bothy on the slopes of a cow-trodden mountain, while beautiful ruins hint at the layers of history found throughout the hills, lochs, and villages that make Scotland so utterly irresistible. Walkers will find a good trail almost anywhere, but Fort William is arguably best, with its access to Ben Nevis, Cow Hill, and the vast Loch Eil, and Fort William makes a perfect gateway to the Inner Hebrides archipelago and the stunning isles of Skye and Iona.

When to Go

670 x 400 Buckingham Palace London

While the weather across Great Britain tends to be changeable, travel to England and Scotland is a pleasure to visit year-round. But if you’re hoping for warm weather, then visit in the idyllic flower-shaded springs or the summer, when the weather tends to be hot in London and the south (often reaching the mid-80s Fahrenheit) and warm even in the northern extremes of the Scottish Highlands. Though if you are Highland-bound, always brace for bouts of rain and days of cloud, which only adds to the intense atmosphere on the lochs.
