Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 Zagreb: Private Guided City Tour
Your private tour of Croatia’s highlights begins with your arrival into Zagreb, the capital city with a rich history dating back 3,000 years. After taking private transfer from the airport, you’ll follow your guide along the cobbled streets in the Upper Town with its impressive mix of Austro-Hungarian heritage and classical Viennese secessionist architecture. You’ll be able to marvel at the iconic 13th-century 13th-century St. Mark’s Church and its colourful roof as well as Zagreb Cathedral with its soaring twin spires that standout on the skyline. Afterwards, wander on your own to discover the city’s parks, museums, galleries and restaurants.
Day 2 Zagreb: Day of Leisure
Explore more of Croatia’s capital at your leisure. After getting a taste yesterday, you should have an idea of what you’d like to take in more in-depth. Some of the top museums to consider visiting include the Zagreb City Museum, the Museum of Broken Relationships, and the Museum of Arts and Crafts. If you’d like to venture outside of Zagreb, you might take an optional private guided day trip to Trakoscan Castle which dates to the 13th-century and includes a forested park and lake. You’ll also see the restored Veliki Tabor castle/fortress and enjoy time to explore the palaces and churches in nearby Varazdin.
Day 3 Plitvice Lakes: Transfer to Plitvice Lakes National Park
Leaving Zagreb with camera in hand, it’s time to head to one of Croatia’s most popular and most photographed attractions: Plitvice Lakes National Park. It boasts a maze of magnificent waterfalls and lakes with crystal-clear water that ranges in shades from emerald to turquoise, all surrounded by lush greenery. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, you’ll hop on an electric boat and then walk the meandering pathways, crossing the picturesque woodenbridges bridges to see the 16 linked terraced lakes and cascading falls. Afterwards, take the scenic train ride that circles the park for a panoramic view of it all.
Day 4 Split: Diocletian’s Palace Tour
After a day of exploring some of Croatia’s most stunning natural wonders, transfer to ancient Split along the Dalmatian Coast. It was birthed when Roman Emperor Diocletian chose it as his retirement home, which means it’s filled with incredible architecture that dates all the way back to the early 4th-century. The huge huge complex seems more like a small city, making it best toured with a knowledgeable local. Your guide will take you through the labyrinth of marble streets and alleyways to view magnificent Roman, Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Today the historic buildings house wine bars, restaurants, cafes and unique shops.
Day 5 Split: Day of Leisure + Optional Boat Trip
Split has so much to offer, and today you can sample offerings that entice you most with a day of leisure. You can soak up the sun at Bacvice Beach or perhaps get a dose of daily life by visiting the Green Market, just steps from the east wall of Diocletian’s Palace. Vendors sell cheap souvenirs and clothing, but the highlight is the local, seasonal foods like artisanal cheeses, cured meats and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. You can also take an optional boat trip to Trogir, renowned for its well-preserved Old Town with a magnificent mix of baroque, Romanesque and Renaissance architecture.
Day 6 Hvar: Private Tour of Hvar Town
Get ready to cruise over to cosmopolitan Hvar today. The island is famous for its yacht-filled harbour, upscale restaurants and lively nightlife, but it also offers plenty of beauty from its whitewashed homes, to idyllic beaches edged by a clear turquoise sea and lush green rolling hills. Its Old Town offers a lot of history buffs that you’ll explore on a private guided tour. Check out landmarks like Europe’s oldest theater, opened in 1612, and head to the top of Fortica Fortress to discover a breathtaking panoramic view. Afterwards, delve into the culinary scene with dinner in one of the local eateries.
Day 7 Hvar: Blue Cave Boat Trip
A visit to the world-famous Blue Cave, also known as the Blue Grotto, is something you won’t want to miss. Weather permitting, you’ll be able to enter by boat to experience this magical natural phenomenon before exploring secluded coves and caves nearby, filled with crystal-clear emerald water for swimming. If you’re adventurous, you can even jump in from the cliffs. Before heading back to Hvar you’ll stop at the historic fishing village of Komiza on the western coast of Vis Island. Here you’ll be able to relax and indulge in a seafood feast along the waterfront, dining with an enchanting sea view.
Day 8 Hvar: Day of Leisure
You’ll get a full day of leisure to enjoy on Hvar. You might relax, soaking up the sun on one of the beautiful beaches, or take an optional wine tasting tour to sample locally produced red and white wines while learning all about the winemaking process in Croatia. A thrilling Jeep Safari tour is an option too if you want to visit some of the island’s most charming villages and rural landscapes, including vineyard- and lavender-covered hills. If you’d prefer to spend the day on the water, you can sail around the nearby Pakleni islands with their hidden beaches and shady secluded coves.
Day 9 Dubrovnik: Old City Tour
It’s time to venture southeast to your next destination on the Dalmatian Coast, the walled medieval city of Dubrovnik. Upon your arrival, you’ll meet your local guide for a tour that includes filming sites from the hit series “Game of Thrones,” like the Pile Gate, along with the Old City’s ancient walls, Sponza Palace and the baroque/gothic/Renaissance Rector’s Palace. You’ll see many impressive historic landmarks as you stroll the marble paved streets. After your tour, you can ride the cable car to the top of Mount Srd to take in a bird’s-eye view of the red-tiled roofs, the sea and nearby islands.
Day 10 Dubrovnik: Montenegro Day Trip
A full-day tour will bring you to Montenegro, Croatia’s spectacular neighbour to the east. The diverse landscape includes everything from dramatic mountains, magnificent fjords and beautiful beaches. It’s also home to some incredible cities, including coastal Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was built between the 12th and 14th centuries, wedged between rocky peaks and the sapphire waters of Kotor Bay. Stroll the cobbled streets of this incredibly atmospheric town, gazing up at the ancient stone walls that surround it, discovering a medieval maze of Venetian palaces, churches, museums and café-lined squares before relaxing along the waterfront.
Day 11 Dubrovnik: Day of Leisure
The last day of your tour will be enjoyed at your leisure, the perfect way to explore Dubrovnik at your own pace. The options are nearly endless, from walking atop the ancient city walls with the sea on one side and the historic center on the other to paddling through the crystal-clear blue waters to Lokrum Island on a kayak tour. You’ll get a stunning perspective of the walls from the water, along with opportunities to swim or snorkel. Or simply wander through the Old City streets, shopping for souvenirs, browsing the galleries and people watching from one of the sidewalk cafes.
Day 12 Departure
After 11 unforgettable nights your private tour of Croatia’s highlights comes to an end. Enjoy one last breakfast before checking out of your Dubrovnik hotel – your private driver will pick you up for transfer to Dubrovnik Airport.
