Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 Cape Town Arrival
Upon your arrival to Cape Town International Airport, your private driver will transfer to your upscale hotel along the V&A Waterfront in the city. Take time to get settled in, relax, and then get re-energised by heading out to do some exploring. You’ll be perfectly situated for enjoying the waterfront’s attractions along with beautiful ocean and mountain views. Check out the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, visit Two Oceans Aquarium, enjoy the 360-degree views while riding the Cape Wheel, and then do some shopping, with hundreds of options available. You’ll find a wide range of eateries to enjoy too.
Day 2 Cape Town
The day is all yours to enjoy at your leisure. Some of the options we recommend include booking a city tour through Cape Town for local insight into the history and the top spots to visit, and riding the cable car to the top of Table Mountain. From there you’ll get a dazzling panoramic view of the harbour, Table Bay, the city, Robben Island, Lion’s Head, Signal Hill and Devil’s Peak. Afterwards, you might visit South Africa’s oldest building, The Castle, and then indulge in some more shopping and dining along the V&A Waterfront.
Day 3 Cape Town
With so much to do in Cape Town you’ll need another day to enjoy it at your leisure. One of the most popular things to do is visit Robben Island. A tour will allow you to get a glimpse of what Nelson Mandela experienced when he was imprisoned here for 18 years. Another option is to enjoy wine tasting in the Stellenbosch Winelands or to join a tour of the scenic Cape Peninsula, home to a famous penguin colony at Boulders Beach and Africa’s most southwestern tip, Cape Point. Or, stick around the city to explore more from museums to colourful markets.
Day 4 Klaserie Private Reserve / Greater Kruger Park
Today you’ll take private transfer back to Cape Town’s airport to catch a flight to Hoedspruit. Upon your arrival you’ll be welcomed and transferred to a private game reserve, adjacent to the Kruger National Park. In the late afternoon, you’ll join a game drive, searching for the African wildlife. The animals roaming freely in the reserve include lions, white rhinos, cheetah, hippo, antelope, buffalo and more, providing unbeatable viewing and photographic opportunities. Be sure to bring your camera.
Day 5 Klaserie Private Reserve / Greater Kruger Park
You’ll have two full days ahead to enjoy game drives in the morning and the afternoon, heading out with an experienced ranger in an open safari vehicle. This morning head out to watch for hippo, lion, rhino and leopard in the reserve. In between the exciting game drives, you’ll have time to relax, rest or enjoy swimming in the pool.
Day 6 Klaserie Private Reserve / Greater Kruger Park
Another day of game drives and the chance to see animals you haven’t glimpsed yet, with your expert ranger coming with the experience it takes to find them. There is also the opportunity to explore the reserve on foot with a walking safari.
Day 7 Johannesburg
This morning enjoy one last game drive before your driver collects you and transfers you to the airport for your flight to Johannesburg. On arrival into Johannesburg you will be met and transferred to your hotel. You’ll spend the night in Johannesburg which offers a wide range of outstanding restaurants where you can relax with dinner after your long day, and then rest up for another flight tomorrow, this time to Mauritius.
Day 8 Mauritius
Return to the airport in Johannesburg this morning for your flight to Mauritius, located 2,000 miles off the southern eastern African coast. This island in the middle of the Indian Ocean is filled with pristine white sand beaches, turquoise lagoons, lush forests, sugar cane fields and volcanic hills while offering a wide range of activities. Take part in everything from mountain hikes to watersports and outstanding birdwatching. After your flight you might want to simply relax along the beachfront, at the pool, sip cocktails overlooking the bay or take advantage of the other facilities at your hotel.
Day 9 Mauritius
You’ll have the next six days to do as you wish. If you prefer to do nothing but sunbathe on the beach or laze around the pool, you can, although there are plenty of options for getting active. After many full days, now may be the perfect time to indulge in relaxation, perhaps spending time at your hotel spa. You might enjoy a decadent massage and a body treatment, for total pampering using the island’s own tropical ingredients. Enjoy some of Mauritius’ deliciously fresh seafood like lobster for dinner and then enjoy the clear night skies – one of the world’s best for stargazing.
Day 10 Mauritius
While how you spend your day today is all up to you, we recommend taking advantage of the many water sports options. If you enjoy getting out on or in the water, the opportunities are practically endless. Just a few of the options include diving, snorkelling windsurfing, sailing, and water-skiing. Mauritius is home to around 430 different underwater species, so you can discover a breath-taking world beneath the ocean’s surface if you’re so inclined and the water is warm enough year-round. Some of the fish you might see include parrotfish, clownfish, and angelfish along with flora like mangroves, seagrass, and coral reefs.
Day 11 Mauritius
How about a boat excursion today? There are lots of options from catamarans to speedboats that will bring you to nearby islands that dot the ocean beyond the reef like Flat Island, Gunner’s Coin and Ilot Gabriel where you can walk around the entire deserted isle in less than an hour. Some trips will take you up Grand River South East to see the gorgeous multi-tiered waterfall that spills onto the aquamarine-hued water, or the forest-covered island/nature reserve, Ile Aux Aigrettes, the last spot on Earth dodo birds were seen. A full day excursion usually includes food, perhaps stopping to enjoy a barbecue lobster lunch on a beach.
Day 12 Mauritius
Spend the day relaxing or perhaps enjoy a visit to Tamarind Falls, a series of seven cascades on the River Tamarind in a beautiful canyon. It’s best to join a tour or hire a guide for the trek as the hiking paths aren’t well marked, and they’ll know the safest way to get you there and can point out flora and fauna like colourful tropical birds you’re likely to see along the way. You’ll hike through the forest and lush vegetation, and once there, you can walk right alongside the falls and, if conditions are right, even jump into a pool below.
Day 13 Mauritius
If you want to mingle with the locals to get a taste of the local culture, the main city of Port Louis is home to the country’s largest market. Built by the French in the 18th-century, it’s a favourite among visitors and locals. No matter when you go, it’s always lively with many locals who work in the city stopping by for a cheap and tasty snack. There’s an abundance of stalls, with one part selling fresh vegetables and tropical fruits, while home-cooked foods are sold in the interior areas. In front there are various handcrafted goods, some carved out of coconut shells.
Day 14 Mauritius
On your last full day in Mauritius you might want to celebrate the trip with an experience of a lifetime, swimming with wild dolphins. Unlike jumping in with animals in captivity, in a pool or other shallow water, you’ll have the unique opportunity to enter the natural environment of these magnificent marine mammals. Boat trips leave early in the morning, but it’s worth the wakeup call to come face to face with the curious creatures, swimming right alongside them while surrounded by the spectacular scenery. You’ll learn more about the types of dolphins and their habits from the skipper/guide too.
Day 15 Departure
This morning your 14 nights touring South Africa and Mauritius comes to an end. After fuelling up for the long journey with one last breakfast, you’ll transfer to the airport for your return flight home. Of course, if you don’t have to be back just yet, you can always extend your trip by reaching out to our travel experts.
