Nestled in the hills of the Catarpe Valley on the outskirts of San Pedro de Atacama, Alto Atacama is well-located for exploring all the desert’s popular sites from the flamingos at the salt flats to Valley of the Moon, El Tatio’s geysers, and Alma Observatory. The adobe-walled buildings were designed to harmonize with the landscape with earthy tones making it a cool refuge during the day and a roaring fire keeping things warm during cool evenings. Staff lines up to greet guests with fresh juices upon their arrival at Calamo’s airport and there are over 30 private tours on offer. The property includes a spa with geothermally heated baths and there are also a half-dozen plunge pools scattered throughout the grounds. There are outdoor fire pits, special BBQs with traditional live music and top-notch gourmet fare. All rooms have private terraces and minibars, while suites have south-facing terraces for enjoying the best stargazing.
